Is it still conventional wisdom to resize skins into 512x512 down from 1024? Or has that all been fixed in Aces??
Thanks-
I'm downloading some skins as I've seen custom covers showing up again online.

I would think by now most would have a computer big enough to run the 1024 skins without a problem. But as always I could be wrong. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

The skinning community has been using 1024 skins since the release of FB. Why would we use 512 if FB supports 1024? Since FB came out I'll bet that 95% of the skins uploaded to IL2 Skins (http://www.il2skins.com) are 1024.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gifIvan, you're killing me. Sat for an hour waiting for you to fire up a co-op...fell asleep! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif Well, theres always tonight!

Heller...
There was a time when servers would do everything possible to insure lag free play.
Initially after the realease of FB the large skins were causing problems. A few of were worried the problem would be the kiss of death for skinners.
Glad to see them making a comeback.
Most of those skins are one meg, you get 20 players with custom skins theres only a couple of PC's with the balls to handle that kind of hump on respawn...

DAWG every thing you can do to prevent lag "JUST DO IT" like nike sayes here are a few things I ask my customers to do when I serv.

Use default skins &/or turn skin DL off.
change net connection to 56k
No lights
No Smoke Shows
No Screenshots
No Tracks

Basicaly Nothing outside of the realm of Pure DF/JABO with no bull**** thoes few things I listed above illiminates LOTS OF STUTTER & or pausing its not perfect but its the best I have found of corse when hosting, certain babies cant abide by the few small rules SO THE KICK button is close at hand http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The reason to use 512 is to Illiminate Online lag... & make transfer of Paint scheme information across the server & all clients SMOOTHER other than that there is no reason.

Your only likely to get opinion Hawgdog ...

... in my opinion 1024 skins are fine, and cause no problems with high end graphics cards.

I did, recently, upgrade my graphics card and notice that new skins arrive much quicker than they did before.
That was in 1.22 days - I anticipate AEP will be at least as good.

There *may* be an issue with low end cards and client processing lag.
Remember - individual clients may choose not to DL skins.
