The planes lost during the actual attack on Pearl Harbor are broken down as follows:

Wave 1: 9 Planes Lost
Akagi: 1 A6M2
Kaga: 2 A6M2, 5 B5N2
Shokaku: 1 D3A

Wave 2: 20 Planes Lost
Akagi: 4 D3A1
Kaga: 2 A6M2, 6 D3A1
Hiryu: 1 A6M2, 2 D3A1
Soryu: 3 A6M2, 2 D3A1

The breakdown of lost or written-off planes is as follows:

The first wave lost 21 aircraft (3 A6M, 16 B5N and 2 D3A).
The second wave lost 34 aircraft (6 A6M and 28 D3A).

A total of 9 zero's lost over the two waves .. I do not know if any of those 9 were lost to mid air cillisions but i find it extremely unlikely http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

"Pearl Harbor" taught me some fascinating things about the War that I wouldn't have known otherwise:

1) I never knew that the big ol' steel wing of a Spitfire actually floated on water.

2) I never knew that a 300mph ditching was survivable.

3) I had no idea that the P40 could outfly an A6M Zero.

4) I had no idea that the Japanese attack was planned by Darth Vader (check out the standard cliche of all such movies - the Evil Board Meeting right before the dastardly deed).

5) I certainly had no idea that Jimmy Doolittle bore such an uncanny resemblance to Jabba the Hutt.

6) I was previously unaware that Japanese fragmentation bombs were actually filled with petrol for that characteristic 'puffball explosion' effect.

7) I didn't realise that Pearl Harbor was only four feet deep and that all the sailors on the Oklahoma had to do to escape was wade (I'm certain some of those sailors were standing rather than paddling!)

etc.
