Lets assume that you've cornered someone and you REALLY want to kill them. To make this more 'real', also assume that this pilot has been handing you your arse all evening.

So you get locked on his 6 and stay with him through every trick he can throw at you. You don't bother pulling the trigger because you are certain you can get a bit closer and get the beloved pilot-kill.

After Maj_Victim pulls a bit tighter than he should, you gain altitude prepare to swoop down with your new-found speed advantage and put and end to the fight once and for all. He's yours and you know it.

This is when JohnQPublic comes barrelling in with hostiles in persuit, and of course hits your victim with a wild spary-n-pray which knocks out your opponents' engine.

20 minutes of damned good fighting stolen by a team mate who just happens to be oblivious to the enemy planes behind him.

As satisfying as it might be to fill JohnQPublic with a 1-sec burst, doing so would just lead to hate and discontent.

As a means of settling our nerves after dealing with such frustrating things, I propose that we kill the enemy pilot while he's in his chute. It may not be sporting, but if it were not for him, we wouldn't have these kinds of problems anyways.

If you have chased enemy 20 minutes and your team mate come and shoot him down in couple of seconds ,maybe he deserves the kill http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But i get you point it is frustrating.

I know this is frustrating, but you should settle it with your teammate. Talk to him/her, and let him/her know how you feel and that you've been hot on the enemy's tail for 20 minutes just playing with him like a cat with a ball of yarn. Then, maybe, your teammate will check the situation next time.

The way I've seen people fly on different servers is either "free-for-all" where you'll see 1-5 people chasing the same guy, or the "wing-man-flight" where you'll see one player chasing the enemy and another covering him. Rarely will more than two players follow the same enemy, and the wingman never takews a shot until the first brakes off. It's interesting though that servers seem to attract different players, 'cause I almost never see both styles on the same server.

But, you should NEVER kill a pilot in his chute! NO! Don't even think about it! Fly close and give him a streak of smoke as a "thank you" for the fight, but don't kill him. I know I'm sensitive about this, but I think it's extremely bad form, and I (like some others) try to keep my virtual behind alive as long as possible. (It's bad enough that the enemy AAA always zeroes in on you when you've bailed, and that they more often than not kill you...) Just my 2c.

Wow. Your teammate blew up an enemy plane. I say 3 cheers for the team. Now that you 2 are together, why not play his wingman(cause he obviously knows how to shoot), and go after baddies together.

Maybe you can even take a few scraps from him too. You'll forget about that plane in no time.

In scripted servers where there is a plane and pilot count I'll take out the bailed pilot. Gives the other team one less pilot to work with. Oh yes, and vulchers. If they try to bail out over our feild, same fate.

By the way, don't go for the chute...go for the pilot./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The other guy doesn't know you've been chasing for twenty minutes. Anyway, the fact that you've been chasing him for 20 minutes doesn't give you any special 'right' to this kill. I don't think the concept of 'kill stealing' makes much sense. since there's no kill to steal until the kill's been made. Also, flying around on someone's tail for 20 minutes is NOT good practice in real world air combat, as you are leaving yourself very vulnerable. In that sense, your team mate has done you a favour by finishing it in your team's favour. People would recognise this as a genuine bnefit more if the scoring system took acount of your deaths as well as your kills.

Bottom line for me is that if the other guy interferes *in any way* with your attack, forcing you to break off, for instance, or taking a bad line, he's guilty of bad airmanship and you can justifiably issue a rebuke. Preferably in friendly terms. The guy is probably new, and you have no authority over him to tell him what to do.

Wanting to kill a team mate for killing the enemy seems a touch over the top to me :-)

The only thing I find objectionable about "kill stealing" is the pilot who carelessly risks collision w/ my plane in order to get the kill. If you can steal the kill, then fine (I don't like it), but fine, just give your teammates some room. If you don't have any SA don't get close to friendly AC.

i dont believe in kill stealing. personally i think its stupid that we call it that. i dont think any WW2 pilots complained about "kill stealing".i dont care if someone else on my team kills who im chasing, just as long as he doesnt shoot through me to do it.

i will also down any enemy plane, smoking or not, if a good opportunity arises, no matter who is chasing

I agree with you all the way on this one Chadburn except the last line. I go for the chute.....I like to hear them scream on the way down. LOL

Shooting an undamaged enemy fighter is never kill stealing. If you were following him around for 20 minutes and JohnQPublic shot the guy down on a flyby, JohnQPublic deserves the kill for having his $hit together and you need to learn how to close to kill faster.

What kill stealing REALLY is: when some bastard pops in and puts a few rounds into a burning aircraft that you've already sent falling from the sky. This is deserving of a teamkill on the spot, and repeated friendly vulching until the offender leaves the server.

And I never leave a parachute hanging if I see one, friendly or not /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
