View Full Version : I-153P engine wont stay on even with realism off

Whenever I try this neat looking little plane I always end up crashing because I can't keep the engine running. Now I realize that with the realizm turned up this would be an acceptable thing probably attributed to my lousy understanding of engine management controls and priciples but when I turn all the realism settings off and I STILL can't keep it running...I begin to get frustrated. The realism settings are for people like me who don't want to play online because 1).I suck and 2). I dont have time to dedicate to a game. Always playing between fixing soemthing for the wife or figuring out whats up with my baby girl...and who don't have time to learn how to really fly. I mean, I can bounce off the ground and keep going but I can't keep my engine running? Whats going on?

dont pull any negative G's. its fuel is gravity fed not fuel injected so when you push down on the stick the fuel stops entering the engine

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also is caused by flying upside down. You can re~start your engine with enough airspeed. Above ~200km/hr to be safe. I~16 and Hurricane are also effected by this. Hurricane however can be restarted at zero airspeed. Give your engine time to start, it does not always catch and you must try again, and sometimes again. Watch your engine guages as you try to restart and know them well. May be helpful to have some throttle up before restart. Experiment.

If you have the new Ace Expansion Pac, the new Biplanes are effected, Fiat CR.42 more than J8A Gladiator, Fiat G.50 also effected by engine cut out. Once you know what is going on here (and know a way to get out of trouble), the sim becomes even more Fun. In the original FB 1.0 they would not let you re~start engines in air. That was Patched long ago.

Ok, thanks guys. Both your posts helped me. I was actually able to shoot down a few planes in quickmatch with your advice. Is the realizm setting not applying intentional I still can't help but wonder though.

Complex engine management settings and other options don't have any effect on this. I know what you are thinking http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif don't, this is really fun stuff when you get used to it. Avoiding engine cut~out just makes you alot more careful, and soon you will be aware of it without thinking about it too much and still be able to throw your plane around the sky.

Also, flying in turbulence in clouds or when you set stormy weather conditions, the bumping can give you negative gees and cut your engine out too.

They need to make a sticky thread for engine cut~out over the FB.

And one that says J8A = Flyable Gladiator

Yeah, I'm starting to get the hang of it. Havn't been messing with it recently though, I think I like flying the super cool 109z the best, just cause all the purists hate it.

Thump until they make a sticky thread about engine cut~out. That gave me horrible problems until I read about them, here, at the ubi.com. It was I~153, and I thought I was running out of fuel only 10 minutes into mission. Of course back then, FB 1.0, you could not re~start engine.

I never new P11c was flyable until a month after I got the FB, or that would have been my first.

Here's an easy way to avoid stalling your engine when you need to dive:

Bank 90 degrees to the right, so your wings are straight up and down. Apply some gentle forward pressure on the stick so that you don't change heading. As soon as you're over on your side, apply full right rudder to bring the nose down. The extra G forces will then be directed toward the left side of your plane instead of the top of your plane, and the engine won't stall. When you're at the preferred angle of dive, roll 90 degrees left so that you're normally oriented again.

After you get used to this maneuver, you'll find it doesn't take any extra time over just nosing down, and it doesn't kill your engine.
