During the install of the game, I saw a nice screen shot or two of Leningrad.

My question is are buildings like the Chancellery or the Reichstag in the Berlin map? Or the Brandenberg Gate?

I wanted some screenies of P-47s flying by them, and I could not find any of them.

There are a few sites to see on the Berlin map. Somewhere near the middle of the city.

Berlin is not nearly as nice as Leningrad, but it does have a few honking big airports to build on.

yup those buildings are up in Berlin pretty easy to find if ya fly low over the city. I forgot off hand where they are, but I am sure some Germans in here could direct ya by memory/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Yep, the centre of Berlin is pretty well modelled. The Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory tower are all there. Look for a huge park in the centre of the city (the Tiergarten) and the Reichstag and the Gate are at the eastern edge of it.

The Tiergarten is north of the big airport (Schoenefeld?) to the south that seems to get most of the action in the campaigns.

The area that's missing is the Museuminsel and the buildings along Unter den Linden, including the Kaiser's old palace, and the square where the book burnings took place. Yuo can however find the Adler Hotel, a top class facility popular with Eva Braun, bombed out and rebuilt after the war. It's just SE of the Brandenburg gate.

As an aside, Berlin is a wonderful place to visit, and you can still see scars of the war in some places, like the church on the Ku'damm that was deliberately left as a reminder to Berliners. Check out the square opposite Humboldt Uni to see the very clever memorial to the book burnings... just go see it at night, it's much better then.

oh, and the Berlin women are incredible!!! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

There you are. P-47 with Brandenburger Tor and Reichstag:

The Berlin map is basically a remnant from the original IL-2. They added some new bridges to it in FB. Leningrad is much newer and better.

The building types they used for Berlin are rather a collection from all over Germany and not so typical for the densely populated pre-war "steinernes Berlin" (Berlin of stone) that was known for its blocks of tenements with multiple narrow backyards.

Also some waterways are overdone. Little canals look like huge rivers in the game.

The airport south of the center is Tempelhof. They didn't model the open hangar which forms a huge arc around the NW segment of the airfield.

Thanks guys. Some people at this other board I frequent are boasting of how good EAW is compared to our game.
They keep throwimg up screenshots, and I want to give them something to bite on.

I figured T-Bolts or Mustangs over Berlin would be nice.

But yes, Leningrad is beautiful.

Thanks again

BTW, In the book Thunderbolt, Bob Johnson mentions flying escort on some missions to the city. And an incident on one mission in which a bailing pilot hit the nose of a Mustang. The Pony got home, the poor pilot was shredded.

And I *think*, not sure, that in the book Wing Leader, by J.E. Johnson that his wing was flying over Berlin when they encountered Soviet fighters. I would check, but do not have the book anymore.
