In SC, he did a HALO jump which we didnt even get to see...not even as a FMV.

Id like to see Sam have one...and have that be the mission....

just opening it in time.


also...at the end of part 1, when he runs to the Osprey, I thought that was pretty cheesy. It would have made a great final challange to make it without getting banged up...as opposed to a FMV

btw its called a HELO JUMP not HALO JUMP /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

A helo jump would be from a helicopter (helo). A halo jump is a high altitude jump, only releasing the parachute at the last possible second, for added stealth. That way the plane is too high to be too noticeable (too high to expect the plane to be anything other than just an ordinary plane flying overhead) so you're not on the lookout for a parachuter to begin with, and furthermore, the parachuter releases at the last moment, so it would be hard to see him even if you were looking.

But back to the topic, I agree it would have been better to see the halo jump, and actually have to run insyead of watching a movie.

oh I thought he was talking about halo jump like on ibonk.com where you have 4 people throw a plasma, then quickly throw a frag, then fire a rocket launcher and the warthog goes flying off the map!

Yea i found it cheesy to when u get to extraction and the screen turns green and sam just stands there looking lost...

I was SO mad at the end of the game because of that!

I also agree that FMV sequences of insertions and extractions (once you GET to the extraction point-NOT like the end of Abbatoir or the Pres Palace) would be very nice...

And to add another tidbit to the HALO discussion, parachutes are easier to detect on radar than just a person.

Does the GCN/PS2 version have a different ending FMV? Because I, too, thought the really bad FMV at the end was stupid, and the very end one in his living room.

The PS2 version doesn't have an ending cutscene where he's running to the Osprey, it just flicks to the news report, then him on a boat with Sarah.

In other words: is the whole sarah scene with Sam free-diving a preview for PT or the prelude to SC?

Actually, the parachute wouldn't show up, because the point of the jump is to open just under the radar. This works well when jumping at night. There is another kind of jump called a HAHO (High Altitude High Opening) it's also stealthy and for some reason isn't detected by radar. I have to say i agree with everybody, that the endings need to be better, and has anyone else downloaded that new level for SC1. Listen to the end when you finish, there's an audio bug. Instead of "Great job Fisher", you hear Kong Feirong say "I'm going to shoot", then it cuts off. Kinda funny. It ends wierd but there's supposed to be a second part.

There is a scene in Soldier of Fortune: Double Helix that I think warants a mention in this topic. At the beginning of a Russian mission he parachutes in and as he is coming down you can survey your route and any possible hostiles as you come in to land. I think something like that would make a good edition to the game.

Fox, that was my point-a person is harder to detect, so he free-falls to below radar level before opening the chute. I doubt a HAHO jump is more stealthy than a HALO, but I'd say it is more stealthy than a helicopter insertion... Guess it depends on the stealth requirement vs the risk involved as to the insertion method...

Yeah, instead of making the ps2 GAME better, they spent more time reworking the end cutscene... At least that's one explanation...

Yep definitely needs a HALO jump. I think it should be like you're playing but it flies for you and you check out the hostiles/route for that area.

That is definately the way to go, it looks great and they way they did a similar thing in Soldier of Fortune: Double Helix, and it also helped you out a bit with your route.
