The P-40!!! Yup, you read that correctly. At least against ace AI controlled I-185s. Too bad that they are on the same side in the game because the P-40 ( any model ) is the best fighter to go up against the I-185 that I found. The zero and the KI-84 are a very close second and third. The Spits ain't bad either. I did extensive tests in QMB and came to this conclusion. Tested every bird I could think of.
Could the real P-40 actually turn this hard?? I will have to also add that it's the best for my particular fighting style anyway. It may not be best for everybody. All I know is if I got past the initial head-on pass, there was utterly no possible way the AI had even the remotest of a remote chance to win the fight against me. I will win it every single time in a P-40. Needless to say a real human pilot might actually take advantage of the much faster speed and power of the I-185 and totally dictate the entire skirmish. But we all know the limitations of the AI, they hardly take advantage of any advantage!! And for sure not speed. Some may come in here and make fun of my perfectly useless post, but I really didn't have much else to do this evening!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

As I stated in a similer post I'm unable to fly at the moment due to injury.

If you really want to see the I-185 shine match it 12 AI against 12 AI aces for both.

It has very optimistic flight and damage models............................................ .......and its goofy looking http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

When fighting against the YP-80 and Yak3 I thought the AI improved. And certainly in those airframes it has, but, in the I-185M-71 and '40 Zero, it's really pretty bad. I mopped up the 185 with both a G-2 and F-4, and even dominated the Zero with the F-4 (as well as the 185).

Odd. They always had different capabilities based on plane type, but those 2 planes (185 and zero) should be right up the AI's alley.

No, 185 was not designed as a turning plane like Zero was. In fact Po sacrificed wingloading after I~180 to help with speed, and here again we see similarities to He~100 ~vs~ Fb109. We really need He~100, with normal rad cooling, in the FB.

For the easily shown as dumb "historical" whining, a He~100 "squadron" was used by He test pilots for factory air defense (but that may have been the fancy surface evap version mmm).

LEXX I really wanted the HE100D for along time and was toying with the model in 3D MAX (steep learning curve) but was later informed that oleg canot make it because there is no cockpit information http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. I think it is for the best that we dont have it. The HE100D was flying at speeds that the 109 did not reach until 1942 and you can imagine what kind of posts that would generate http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .

Oh what, it went up half a pound per sq. ft.? Even twice the weight of a feather is still light you know. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I didn't mean to say that the 185 was a match for the Zero in a sustained turn, only that it is bloody good at turning no matter how you slice it and as such, should be good for the AI.

Flying the 185 tonight I was outdone more by the '40 Zero than the 109's available in the 42 plane set.
The 109s couldnt get there, a little flap, back off the throttle to 80%, all the trim you got and she turns real sweetly. Squirrely taking off, reminds me of the I-16 a bit.

any plane seems to be able to shoot them down in a quick burst, especially the new spit 9 p40 b239 or zeros

Most planes were kinda uber when they first entered service, or in advanced testing.
