How can I justify paying $40 just to have earl access to characters?

The characters are free, the maps are free, what am i paying for here?

PS: i like that they are free so the community isn't divided, but there needs to be some substance to this.

Unique costumes, unique emblem borders, unique ornaments I think, unique emote effect, 7-day early access to all new heroes AND they're unlocked for free (ie: you don't have to pay 500 Steel for each one), plus 30-days of Champion status.

You get unique cosmetic items and additional loot. Plus faster levelling, so better loot sooner.

The DLC heroes will be a LOT more than 500 steel.

Are all those unique items associated with the season pass or the gold edition? Say..if i were to buy the standard game first and then buy the season pass seperately later on, will I still get all those unique items?

Its away to get extra money if people want to buy some cosmetics etc but not divide the player base behind a pay wall..

There's almost no point to it unless you like superficial fluff.

I can save 28 by buying the Standard Edition instead of the Gold, so unless Premium alone ends up costing 28 or more later (which I doubt) then I'll buy it eventually and save money on the deal.

The Gold Editions are too expensive no matter what way you look at it.

Based on Rainbow 6: Siege operator model

Farming per hero = 12-25 hours
Total time for 6 = 72-150 hours

VS

$40 at U.S. Federal Minimum wage ($7.25) = ~5.5 Hours of work
Work per hero = ~55 minutes per hero.
Total time for 6 = 5.5 Hours
