Just turn the volume down, and enjoy the pretty pictures. Better yet, have fun and make up your own commentary. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

What's wrong is I sometimes hear them mislabel P-40's as P-51's!

I've always found it fun to turn on a song, then turn on the TV, but mute it, and watch for points when the lyrics and TV show sync up, it's kinda erie...

You would think being history oriented they would get things right, but alas that is not always true. Seems the people who make the programs will dub in any convenient footage, even if it is totally wrong. To me, the history channel is becoming just another cable tv entertainment channel. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Not sure, may be the A&E or the Discovery channel, but the Modern Marvels shows about massive civil engineering is pretty cool, the only thing that really attracts me on USA TV.

LOL what's wrong with the History Channel?!

The network broadcasts Goebbel's propaganda as if it were fact, not to mention American propaganda where it is convenient for them, which happens to be most of the time.

I take the History Channel for what it's worth and only enjoy the footage, and I agree with the topic starter, it's best to just turn off the sound because most of what's coming out of the speakers is pure BS. I could probably get totally wasted and blabber better (and more historically accurate!!!) commentary.

If you want an accurate history lesson on something, read books. And lots of them, so you get more than one historian's perspective on the matter, because sadly books, especially older ones from the 60-mid 80's propagate propaganda as well, mostly unintentionally and out of ignorance.

Ha, History channel is a thing of the past http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif, check out www.discovery.com (http://www.discovery.com) and go to wings!

They have programs like History of Flight, Wings at War, Airplane stories, mostly all focusing on warbirds, and 75% of the time its on WWII aircraft, (Russian, Pacific, UK, US, you name it!)

They even have shows like War over the pacific :|

You make it sound like they mislead their viewers constantly and on purpose. I'll admit that they're wrong sometimes, but come one. How many sources are 100% accurate 100% of the time? Maybe you guys should get a job with them as editors.

You make it sound like they mislead their viewers constantly and on purpose. I'll admit that they're wrong sometimes, but come on? How many sources are 100% correct 100% of the time? Other than maybe something as accepted as a dictionary, you won't find it much. I'm sure they do their best at making sure all of the commentary matches the images. I'd be willing to bet that they don't sit around saying, "Hey Jim, watch this! I'm gonna SAY that this is a P-51, but REALLY it's a P-40! Those idiots at home aren't going to know the difference!" Maybe some of you should apply with them as editors so you can quality control all their stuff, that way, we know it would be 100% accurate, 100% of the time.

I used to have satellite tv in my old flatshare and would watch the History Channel quite a bit in the morning when I was working the afternoon shift, and really I didn't think it was THAT bad.

A lot of rehashed info, yes, and inaccuracies too, but the sources themselves are often inaccurate, either because they have been superseded by new research or because old myths are constantly repeated until they become "common knowledge".

To be fair I have to say that even museums and photographic collections often get things wrong: I remember some wrong labels at the Cold War exhibition at the Imperial War Museum some years back, and some photos of Ju.87 D from the Mediterranean labelled as from the "invasion of Poland" being sent from the Bundesarkiv Koblenz to a British publisher for a book on WW2.

teh History Channel is like I Dream of Jeannie where Major Nelson takes off in F~104, flies around in F~5, and taxis to a stop in F~102 with open canopy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Now that's how a pilot transitions to a new aircraft.

Yeah I gotta admit that History Channel is WW2 all the time and only from US perspective, as much as I"m a yank whos gotta admit that. I thought History went back prior to WW2, too? =P

They are people too who gotta meet deadlines and when they work in an environment like that they gotta recycle a lot of material and information is bound to be wrong. I should know. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif
