It made a historical server, italy vs greece and RAF 1940. Historical planeset; fiat g.50 CR.42 vs Hurricane mk1 p.11 and Gladiator mk1.
Limited icons and externals and speedbar.

Problem was, nobody would bite.

Are historical df servers a thing of the past? I see there is no problem with the arcade servers.

any suggestions?

thanks

Don`t be discuraged Mike. It just takes time before people will get to know you. Then you get regulars, then you can`t even get in LOL. Give it a good description too, something attractive http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Externals can make for popularity...I'm more liable to fly in a server with externals on. A little more relaxing after a stressful day.

If you are on HL I'll be coming. The aircraft lineup sounds fantastic!

I would say alternate the externals on and off over a few days. Sometimes I fly only externals off but every once in a while I feel the need to relax and have a bit of fun with externals on....theres some funny stuff that you see. Just my opinion.

Mike, our server (Fallen Angels) is historical only, correct markings, no externals, speedbar and mini-map path on...we run the server for our squads enjoyment, and open it up nightly on Hyperlobby.

Stop by anytime.

All the best, Don

Never discuss with stupid people.
They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I hate NONhistorical servers and generally servers with externals on because they're giving nonhistorical advantage to T&B fighters.

Altitude, speed, manoeuvre and.... CRASH!

You will never have realism in a Sim Like FB with out Virtual reality head enclosing helmets.
That technology is currently available but not yet in wide spread use, with a Sim designed specificatly for Virtual reality hardware.

In the meantime, we used to run a rather successfull historical server awhile back, you will find if you allow outside view only.
A lot of people like the inherant beuty of the game, they get that with out side views.
Sometimes they like to watch the other players dog fighting, but they have to shoot from inside the **** pit leave the no cockpit view switched on.
Also any sort of Icon immediatly delegates the server to Arcade status, our group has been flying Il-2 since the day it was released, we have no problem identifying aircraft types in Historical servers, and if we do then we are only experience the same amount of difficulty pilots had in reality.
Thats the trick see, your trying to simulate reality even though you never will, until we have virtual reality hardware.
Any kind of Icon = Arcade server, end of story.

So you get the best of both Worlds, you start to attract the full real people because there are no Icons and no padlock to assist the out side view.
You also attract the majority who fly this Sim who love the Graphics of the Game with outside view allowed.
Dont ever make the mistake of thinking a popular server is not an Arcade server.

Stick to your guns with Historical Plane sets, and the Historical plane set crowd will find out about you sooner or later.
