Ok, I see tons of people talking about this Syberia game... I've seen it in stores... is it good? should I get it?

Can someone describe the type of game?

Syberia is a linear game. The graphics are pretty and the story is interesting. It is not first-person; you always have the MC on-screen.

I tend to like this kind of game, with story and graphics, not a shoot-em-up or dying kind of game. I've played and enjoyed Shivers (though I hated having to watch the life-bar), Beyond Time, the Journeyman games, the latest couple of Zork games, things like that.

I can't say whether you should get it, because you have to decide whether it sounds/looks interesting to you and how much you want to spend and all, but I liked it. I liked the mysterious sense of place it had and I wondered about the backstory and what might come next. It was much better than Chateau d'Or, and I found it more satisfying than The Messenger.

What the Voralberg Toy Company made is part of what made things so interesting. It wasn't the kind of toys you get at Toys'r'us.

There used to be a Syberia site and a playable download but they seem to have gone the way of the dodo. Check out the Syberia II site (http://www.syberia2.info/english/). There are Forums for both Syberia and Syberia II. Maybe someone there can send you the file for the playable download.

I would definitely recommend Syberia to anyone who plays adventure games.

Here is a site where you can download the demo and find out more about the game:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/syberia/downloads.html

The puzzles mainly consist of getting various wonderful machines to work as you explore various locations, you carry an inventory with you throughout the game, and the story, music, and scenery are extremely well-done.

ok, no I'm not... I'm having a hard time downloading it...

I subscribed to the site, I approved my account... now I'm downloading a trailer... for some reason, I click on the "updated demo" link and it just gets me to that same page... I dont see how to d\l it...

I just tried the same thing mr-zebra. I've had an account at Game Spot for a while but it confuses me every time I try to download something. Go up to the top of the page and click on downloads then type in Syberia in the Search box. Syberia Updated Demo should be the first of 9 files in the list that comes up. Now this is very important if you have a popup stopper be sure to turn it off or disable it however you can so that the download window can popup when you click on download. Then it should take off for you. GL

I found another site, and I was able to start the download ok. I didn't finish the download because on my dial-up connection it would have taken a while. Hopefully, it will work for you if the other site still won't. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
