S~ all I would like to start doing a little bit of hosting. How much badwidth ( kilobits per second ) does it take to host 16 players without lag. Right now my upload speed is 384 kilobits/second. Thanks.

With that kind of upload speed, you can easily host 16 players. Just be aware that you will always have some amount of lag at various times. Such is the curse of internet play.

Anyway, there is only one way to find out for sure. Start hosting and keep an eye on the pings. If they stay stable while the room is filling up, that's a good sign.

Then, you can add a slot for your next session. Watch the pings when the room is totally filled. If the pings stay stable , you can keep adding slots. Eventually, you will reach your limit and the pings will jump up noticeably. At that time, I would back it down one or two slots and you'll be ok.

If you want to host, one bit of advice I would give is to have plenty of RAM. My own personal preference is a minimum of 1.5GB. I know that may seem like a lot, but FB\AEP is very hungry for memory.

What kind of system do you have? That also plays part in hosting without a dedicated server software installed. (they really need to get that updated for AEP)

You need to build or find some good DF maps to use. Keys to a good DF map:

1. Be sure to put static aircraft on the map somewhere. At least one of each flyable plane. If you limit the planeset, it will make this easier to do. This cuts down on respwan lag.

2. Use a simple map. No big city maps.

3. Keep AAA guns to a reasonable limit.

4. Keep ships (that fire guns) to a minimum.

5. If you are going to place ground targets, make most of them static. A few active ones are ok, but remember that they will be firing at each other constantly on a small map if they are close to each other.

Good Luck!
