Quite frankly, I love seeing planes that were
never on the Eastern front like the P-51D in
IL-2, because I know that Oleg will model them
as accurately as possible, and not bend to the
pleas of people who cry and cry about how über
the plane is, it should be able to down a 109
in a single 1/100th second burst and turn on
a dime.

I tend to view IL-2 not as a solely Eastern Front
sim, but as the single most accurate representation
of aerial combat in the World War II era ever put to
pixel, and I love it. I love seeing how well a P-47D
would do against a La-5FN, much the same as in Chuck
Yeager's Air Combat when you could take a F-4 Phantom II
up and see how well you'd do intercepting a B-17 stream.

I'm excited about the free add-on, not because of just
the P-51, but also about the A6M Zeke. We're finally
going to be able to see just how well the A6M would
have stood up in European-style aerial combat....and
with a little "creativity" in ignoring map names,
we can then create a small micro campaign centering over
the USSR's declaration of war on Japan in August 1945.

And of course, I'm just waiting for someone to take the
Berlin map and create a campaign called "Patton's Dream",
centering around a hypothetical US-Soviet war in 1945
over the ruins of the German State...or maybe I'll do that
myself :-D
