Central pillar of this is the games. Anything the contradicts them is considered non-cannon.

Books, most of the comics, and the now defunct AC Initiate sites are all considered main cannon sources (bearing in mind the above).

I remember reading it and not coming far. I'm no Blag Flag fan but the book ruins Blag Flag for me and I only got 130 pages in

Never read it, so can't really comment but you can, by and large, ignore the books if you want.

Indeed there was, and I believe it did supply some background lore.

Unfortunately l believe it is. All the cringy stuff about Caroline's dad being a Templar is listed on the AC wiki.

Probably the biggest breach of canon I can think of is the Ankh comics run. That stuff just openly and boldly contradicted the games it was released alongside.

Games are canon, huh? I wonder about Assassins Creed Arena.... :p

The only thing I know with 100% certainty to be noncanon is the modern day parts of the French comics that dealt with the Ankh like mentioned above. I know the past parts of the comic dealing with Acqulius and the like are suppose to be canon though.

Also, I could be wrong, but I remember there was something once written about how Altairs death before AC Revelations came out. I don't really know if my mind or memory is playing tricks on me though (this was before 2011 after all when I read this on the AC Wiki), so don't take my word for it, but if my memory of that serves correctly (could also be wrong but it was from the french comic mentioned before?), it contradicts his death in Revelations and is therefore uncanon.
