I know some are having problems with this. Sometimes I copy and paste from various sources and put them in NotePad or something similar, and then drag everything over to the post block. In my experience, the UBB Code dosen't seem to recognize slightly different fonts. So, what font does the forum use? I think if you do it this way, you're less likely to get this kind of error.

Example: I typed a reply in Notepad, copying quotes from the message I was responding to. I got the error. I tried changing between different word processing programs to get rid of any offending formatting, to no avail. So I retyped the entire thing, word for word in the forum post block and it worked. Any help is greatly appreciated.

And yes, I reserve my right to make elaborate posts. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Shortening them to not get the error is not acceptable. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I am pretty sure that Notepad doesn't preserve any formatting apart from line breaks.

It definately won't keep font or font size info.

(correct me if I'm wrong)

Personally I use EditPlus for all my text docs, it puts Notepad to shame, and then beats it.

WTF is this about? It's infuriating! I'm trying to compose a post in Textpad which is set to do nothing apart from plain text with linebreaks and I keep getting this message? I tend not to type long posts direct into UBI because of the high incidence of dodgy forum related post-loss.

*sigh*

Is this a temporary thing? Sure I've not noticed it before.

Notepad is just something quick to doodle with. The same thing happens with Word Perfect 9. Notepad loads faster, and I don't need the fancy editing stuff. I don't think it's a flaw with notepad, I think it's a flaw with the UBB Code that won't allow it to accept text from different sources. I'm trying to find a way around this, as writing/ editing using the post block is clunky and ineffeicent for long posts. That was something I liked about the old forums. You could drag anything into the post block, and preveiw it before you posted.

Where can I find EditPlus? Tucows?

I have the same problem. Not being a native English speaker, I usually run my messages in Word to have the worst misspellings ironed out. However, pasting directly from Word to the Forum does not work for the abow mentioned reason. It _does_ work on other vBulletin-boards though.

The way I've found to get around this problem is to use Quick Reply when I want to post with a quote.

(a)I 1st compose my post in Word.
(b)I then copy & paste into Word the post I want to quote (so my post & the post I want to quote are both together in the one document).
(c)I then just copy & paste the above into the Quick Reply window.

I don't use Reply with Quote to reply with a quote. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As far as spelling goes, try iespell (http://www.iespell.com). It is integrated with your right mouse, either check spelling on page, or highlight like you're going to copy/paste, and check only that.

Arial huh? I'll try using that in Notepad, maybe it will help.

Thanks for the input. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif For the most part, I like the new forum, but a few problems like this diminish the experiance.

I thought it was just me not knowing how to use the new forum. Every time I've tried to paste from Word I would get this error message. The only way I've manage to get around it so far is to use quick reply. Thanks for the information. I'll try using Arial font and check into iespell.

I've been frustrated with it for some time, and I noticed others, like EcoDragon put the error in a post. Hopefully we'll find out what the root cause is, make our experiance here better. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

iespell is free for individual use, and gives multiple spellings for badly misspelled words. It does, I know. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Haven't had the situation come up in the last few days where I needed to cut/copy/paste from here, there, and everywhere, so I don't know if changing to Arial works or not. Anyone?

"It may help to save the file as a text only file in notepad, close it then re-open it to force the stripping of any non-printable characters. It the formatting characters that cause the problems, if you don't save it as a text only file then re-open it, some of the non-printables can survive the mulitple paste operations."

The quickest method I have found is to compose my message in Word, copy and paste it to an email message that I send to one of my other accounts (my ISP is kind enough to allow me up to seven email accounts), and then copy & paste the received message to the "Post A Reply" field.

The Notepad option hasn't worked for me, possibly because my Word program is a recent edition (2003). It's been known to do strange things when I work at home, and then tranfer the files to my workplace, where we use an earlier version.

Hope this helps some of you. By the way, how was the massage, Jumo?
