I'm posting this not as a boast, but as strictly info that may help those with sound problems. I'm using the patch on an old rig: P3 Dell 733 with integrated sound plus sub woofer. Settings are DirectX, 16 channel, 44100, and default sperakers. The sound seems perfect, no AA lapse, ME109 turbo whine, even got wind whistle in cockpit diving P40M with windshield damage. I'm wondering if I'm this fortunate because my sound system is so basic and if therein lies the answer for those of you with advanced add-on cards. Perhaps the basic settings are what's needed.

have you tried the QMB on Crimea map? - fly near the water and boats and see if you get the "gigantic boom in cockpit from flak far away" thrill - I thought I had the sound working just fine, too, untill I flew a mission that had this flak bug problem - almost jolted me out of my chair, 'cause the explosion sounds (which I doubt you would hear at all from those distyances anyway) like it's right there in your cockpit and is about 2 or 3x volume of anything else - post back if you don't get that loud boom problem, in case you have figured out some way to avoid it that might be helpful.

Actually, I allways used the settings as you described even with my Sound Blaster 5.1 surround and I had pretty good sound. I was surprised to hear they were correcting the sound with the patch since I never had a problem with it. Now since the patch I can no longer hear bullet hits, sometimes everything sounds muffled, and when I fire either the engine sounds fade to allmost nothing or the gun sounds don't happen. If I could uninstall just the patch I would. It has made my great game into only an ok one. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I'm embarrassed to say I have never been able to find any ships on the QMB Crimea map. I've found the castle at Yalta, but nary a boat or AA fire. Plenty of AA at airfields, however, and the sound is fine. Any ideas why no ships? Thanks.

play crimea without any targets and fly straight from where you spawn and you'll find ships.

Start your crimea Quick Mission...Sound drops in volume after 4-5 seconds...Do a split S, head for the coast right behind you....the ships are there, off to your left....Cross the beach, and your sound returns to normal.

MAYBE you need to select the AAA option in your QMB setup in order for the ships to be present..?..

The sound actually returns to normal when you hear the big gun firing, a bit of tweaking sound levels has stopped it being too annoying, other than that the patch is a vast improvement IMO.

I found the ships, thanks. And the sound was perfect, touch wood! I flew two attacks in a an LA5, engine fire on the first, throttled back and the flames went out, still smoking tho, and on the second lost a wing, bailed out succesfully, and then was killed by AA as I floated down. Great sound effects. Man, I love this game.
