Hi all,

I have a pleasure to announce an amazing H7 project we've been working on for 2 years! Here it comes, Wryn Pendragon: Umbramancer!

You can be looking forward to:

- brand new Xel faction, including dozens of unique creatures
- three campaigns , taking place in a brand new world called Mondalar
- new heroes and game mechanics
- specially developed dynamic weather system

as far as I know, it will be downloadable as any other custom maps. But that's still far away :)

There is still a lot to be done on the mod before it's released. All the information will be shared at the right time :D

Of course everyone is really welcomed to help us in the community effort in any way. All helpful hands can be used.

Another ways of this project's integration to the game are still to be considered much later.

After a short break in the mod development caused by gamebreaking patch 2.2, we're glad to announce the work on Wryn Pendragon: Umbramancer will continue.
As MMH7 development has been officially ended, all community projects and mods will get much more space and will increase on importance in my personal opinion.

It was not my decision :cool:

However it's connected with the storyboard, world and the faction background.

Hi drwatson111,
only the patch 2.2 stopped all works on the project for a while. However, after the hotfix, the work's in progress again. Sure it will be affected by the bugs which remained in the game but it should not affect the project in any other negative way.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. It will be more likely a fan expansion than a changing mod, although it will bring (as expansions usually do) some new features & mechanics (and also a new faction) too.

Dynamic Weather: New mechanics Introduction

System spec.:
- random weather effects affecting heroes and units on battlefield
- dynamic particles on adventure and combat map
- "growing debuffs", the longer you stay on battlefield, the more powerful those debuffs will be (3 tiers)
- Blizzard, Sandstorm, Heavy rain, Earthquake and more

I suppose the mod will be multiplayer supported, if not, ignore this question.

But seeing as how broken multiplayer is due to bugs, isn't it "useless" to make a mod with multiplayer support then? I still, to this day, have not been able to finish a multiplayer campaign once. And that's the core game. Mods usually bring a few new bugs themselves.

About the mod & multiplayer support:

Our first step and the basic intention is to create something like a fan-addon, so the focus is on the campaign & story mod.
However, as soon as it's finished, it should be possible to make it compatible with the other things (MP, duels...) as well.

Additionally, we hope for another bugfixing mods from different community members to appear too to improve the game experience from both this mod and the main game.

Well, if I have a multiplayer match with multiple bugs, I am not going to complete it. Hence why I haven't finished one. No technical issues involved, just me and my friend not willing to complete campaigns because of units randomly missing and other bugs.

I like the overall mood and colours. The buildings are good, too. However, I find the whole townscreen a bit "disconnected". I think that if the buildings could be somehow be designed and placed such that the building of the town becomes more a process of building excatly that - a town.

In our project, we would like to focus on how to make battlefield more alive and combat itself less repetitive and much more unique. The player should react to the situation and adapt the tactics.

To reach this purpose, we introduce you:
- Atmos weather system with weather directly influencing the battlefield
- Statues on the battlefield which will provide interesting effect for the combat maps, like casting spells or creating barriers. As these statues on the battlefields, you can expect some favourite creatures from H6 to return! (unfortunately, we cannot import the animations from H6, so they can be used only as static models. If anybody is able to get the animations from H6 or from MM:Showdown to work in H7, please, tell us asap!)

The aim is to provide better structure for the provided information and easier communication.

Difficult to say but there's still too much to be done.
As soon as LG finishes all the technical things, we can start with the maps creation process.

And also what do you think - maybe it could be possible just to select the xel race on a standard map like other fractions ?

Unfortunately, Xel faction will be available only for this project campaign maps, not as the independent faction.
I'm really sad about it but it's due to the restrictions for using the Xel models; if they were selectable as the other factions, everyone could export these units which is what we are not allowed to permit.
However, I will certainly remember this idea of creating a MP map with Xel faction as well.

On the Steam project page, a short FAQ is already available. Its English version should come soon.

Прекрасно , что " герои " не умирают , не смотря на все старания юбисофт . Я очень положительно отношусь к людям , которые делают все , чтобы семерка ожила . Все наши надежды на семерку убил Лимбик на корню , поэтому такие моды только в радость . Однако лично у меня вопросы .
Вопрос первый и самый главный - будет ли это все работать в мультиплеере ? лично у меня есть сомнения .
отдельное спасибо за работу над дуэльным режимом - этот мод надо серьезно доработать и отдать игрокам на форуме . ) Дуэльный режим возможно и прокатит . На счет остального , я не программист , но думаю будет нелегко .
В любом случае нельзя несчастную семерку хоронить , я хочу чтобы "герои" жили вечно .
Новая фракция сделанная Анталькой намного лучше чем все что сделал Эрван _Лимбик .)

It is really great that "Heroes" not die despite of all efforts of UBI. I really admire people who make anything possible to make H7 revive! All our hopes regarding H7 were completely killed by Limbic, so these kind of modes can only bring light and hapiness to all of us!

I have some questions regarding the mode.
Do you believe this wonderful Xel world will be possible to play in multiplayer? As for me - I have some doubts.

As I understand - you plan to make the Xel race available in Duel mode - this will be really great and very expected by all duel players. I hope it will work in Duel mode. As for the multimplayer - I am not a programmer - but I think is will not be easy.

In any case we can not just bury H7, I wish "Heroes" live forever ! )))

If you only want to abuse the Czech team - maybe you should better do it via private messages.

Yes it is, I dropped the game Heroes 7 but on this forum I have the right to criticism.

However, if you like to create a MP when using Xel units (so making it available for MP as well), we may discuss it later :D

I think if you are trying to create something new, you first need to fixed the all old one.

Your project should initially be aimed at correcting all errors in the game!

Generally, I agree with you that it's neccessary to fix the bugs first. However, everybody cannot be doing everything.

As much as I can, I will try to make our Umbramancer project compatible with any future bugfixes coming.

To be honest, you could also try to fix some bugs in the editor :D

If you install the mod from the bugfixing link and the people you play with do it as well, you should be able to play multiplayer with them.

The skill of warfare greatly simplifies game mechanics and the development of the main hero.
And also affects the game balance.
it would not be bad if this warfare skill was replaced by a new anti-magic skill.
And also improve AI.

What do you think about this?

To be honest, I personally like the warfare skill as it makes the warfare units much more useful than usually. The game's impossible to balance in a perfect way in my opinion, so it's much more important for me that the game is fun than the balance.
However, although I agree some antimagic skill sounds interesting, it's something out of our influence at the moment. We don't want to change the existing features in this project, only to add new content. ;)

I'm not arguing with you that warfare skill with ballista is a very useful skill, but this skill greatly simplifies the complexity of the game.
When I was a beginner, I really liked this warfare skill :cool:


However, although I agree some antimagic skill sounds interesting, it's something out of our influence at the moment.

The skill of antimagy would be very useful, since on maps with heroic complexity magical heroes always dominate.

You raise good points. The AI can surprise me in both H3 and H7, but in both cases, it's usually more of a coincidence than careful planning. I WISH we had AI like that, but a lot of the time every AI in HoMM so far (at least in my experience) gets a shining moment due to sheer happenstance. Maybe I have a higher standard. And I won't lie: H3 AI can pull off much fancier shining moments than H7 currently, the AI kinda suffers from indecisiveness at times due to the system we implemented it with, and this makes the not ideal decisions stand out quite strongly. Also, the combat AI has some trouble estimating the impact of its passive abilities, like you brought out, with the Legionnaire. I would like to improve this more as well.

I've been playing a lot of H3 recently and I can say that it's just so very exploitable to the point of no fun, H2 AI in particular. And the exploits themselves are basically immediately obvious. Similar things can be said about the current state of H7's AI.

I would really like to see new difficulty above heroic (impossible or hellish :cool:).
I will install a new extension with a glimmer of hope if this will be the game that the heroes franchise deserves.

You raise good points. The AI can surprise me in both H3 and H7, but in both cases, it's usually more of a coincidence than careful planning. I WISH we had AI like that, but a lot of the time every AI in HoMM so far (at least in my experience) gets a shining moment due to sheer happenstance. Maybe I have a higher standard. And I won't lie: H3 AI can pull off much fancier shining moments than H7 currently, the AI kinda suffers from indecisiveness at times due to the system we implemented it with, and this makes the not ideal decisions stand out quite strongly. Also, the combat AI has some trouble estimating the impact of its passive abilities, like you brought out, with the Legionnaire. I would like to improve this more as well.

On the other hand, it's pretty surprising quite often in H7, and that's both with positive and negative meaning. It cannot get out of the mass spells areas which is a huge issue but is much less less predictable than H6 one which is really nice (you can never know if it attacks your hero or if the unit will wait or not for instance).

Similar things can be said about the current state of H7's AI, of course, but pink goggles don't make the H2 OR H3 AI better than the recent instalments. I think one of the most challenging AI's for myself personally was in H4 and H5 (patched, of course).
And what do you thin I'm speaking about? :rolleyes:

A very important error is the synchronization problem.
This error must necessarily be fixed in the new extension Umbramancer.

What do you think about creating a difficulty higher than heroic?
I think in your project you can make a separate method of mode in which there will be an opportunity to abolish the use of skill of warfare with combat support units and also to replace the buildings in the city that will be associated with this skill.
What do you think of it?
