Downloaded it. Tried it. It works. Saves tracks in about four or five seconds now. Now my girlfriend will be real disappointed. She always liked for me to save tracks 'cause it took awhile and we could......ah,....ah, nevermind. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Didn't see any directions after downloading the zip so I unzipped the zip to the IL2FB folder. It unzips into its own folder called PatchSaveTrack. Went into the folder and found the patch.bat and clicked on it. Took about a millisecond and it was done. Flew a mission and when it was over it saved very quickly after clicking on the save track option as you back out of the mission.

Oh yeah. Thanks for the find Pegeka!

Why doesn't Oleg apply this patch. I always thought the save times on IL2/FB where crazy.

Probably just a matter of polishing up the Java script code. I think someone got a hold of it that understands Java very well and polished it up a lot and - walla - it now works the way it was intended too. Ah...my guess anyway. The person responsible done good! Probably something that was going to be fixed with the patch away.

Well this all sounds very tempting, but I fear that this 'patching' may cause trouble after Olegs 'official' patch is then applied over it! Not everything may match up/work, as the dev team clearly didn't build the official patch expecting this mod to be in the folder.

I don't wanna risk having to reinstall and lose my campaigns, so I'll wait. Oleg's gotta include a fix like this in his patch.

I doubt it. We overwrote sections of the code that probably won't be touched in the update, and if they are, they patch will write over those. I don't think it will be a problem.

How can it possibly mess up the patch? At worst you would have to uninstall/reinstall FB, then apply the 1C:Maddox patch. You'd just have to make sure that you back up your pilot info and whatever else you wanna keep. Only tried this with 1 track so far, but WOW what a difference!! Just flew a fairly short 15-20 minute mission (got hit by bomber gunner and had to make a forced landing), but the track finished saving before I could even get ready to time how long it took - virtually instantaneous, and the track looked/worked just great when I played it back.

I still can't shake this feeling, wondering what might else have gotten screwed up by doing this, 'cause it's hard to believe you could get this kind of improvement without some sort of trade-off somewhere. I hope it turns out that everything else keeps working, 'cause this is way cool!

Thanks for the good work!!

XyZspineZyX
06-25-2003, 07:50 AM
Well installed it - and it did work really well - SUPER fast on the first save (about 20 min.). But on the second one, which lasted an hour, it crashed with the usual memory could not be read error. Funny thing is - it happened a lot quicker than it usually does!! So the patch does work - but I'm still having problems saving tracks over an hour. Problem could be TrackIR - only started happening once I used it - and when I do use it the tracks are HUGE! (15MB compared to the usual 1 or 2).

I also noticed some heavy 2-3 second pauses later on in the mission - kind of like I used to get at the merge with fighters before I installed that DLL best patch from Check Six. Anyone else experience this around the 45-50min. mark?

Oh well - back to using online tracks until the patch - but this secret patch does really work wonders! Thanks.

This is because you constantly scan the terrain and sky for bogeys with TrackIR. Lots and lots of turning of the viewpoint compared to using hat.

XyZspineZyX

I can only repeat what others have said here. The patch works like promised and brings saving time down from minutes to seconds.

As a matter of fact, my old Toyota seems to run smoother now too; also, a girl commented on the shine and volume of my hair (and I haven`t changed my shampoo). So I really hope the upcoming patch from Oleg doesn`t roll back these improvements, which may or may not have been caused by this fine savetrack utility.

LOL - if you saw my tracks you'd think I was a neurotic bobble-head http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I'm always looking left and right like a crazed maniac!

So have others had it crash when trying to save a large (one hour mission time) TrackIR track? And to keep it on topic - did this patch fix it - or just speed up the inevitable crash like it did for me.

I don't know about the rest of ya - but the missions fly smoother, as well. I got a couple heavy impact DF missions I've made and I've gotten damn good improvement in performance while flying those missions. I use to get just a little stutter down low in High Intensity graphic areas like Berlin and Leningrad, and although I still get some stutters it's not as bad as before and I was able to jump up a notch in screen resolution, as well./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif -aarrgghh!

I reckon it makes sense though. I understand the game is heavily dependent on Java.

XyZspineZyX

Probably - TrackIR has a LOT more input to record than hand operated (hat-switch / num-pad) set-ups.

You could try saving every 20 minutes, or half hour.

If you have not done so yet, try mapping the quick track option. (There's a thread in the tech forum telling me how to do this /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

Try putting up a feature request, that head movements are (optionally) not recorded in tracks. It wont make this comming patch, but it might make the next one.

When I save a track it happens pretty much instantaneously and I haven't installed the program mentioned in this thread. Why is it that you guys are having this problem of long saving times and why don't I have the same problem . I feel left out /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

HighRollerS, how long are the missions you are trying to save?

I also have the problem that I get a ~1 second stutter when I start recording online tracks.

What is really frustrating is that after many campaign missions, the Save Track option is there, but the button isn't. I guess I don't really watch those long mission tracks anyway, oh well.

Cheers,
Mike

Usually my tracks are about 10 mins but I've recorded longer ones and I still have no problem .. oh I also get the 1 sec stutter when I press the quick record button.

The patch is not for the ingame-recorder but it's to speed up the recording of a track afterwards, try this without the patch and I'm almost certain you will get those very long saving times. This patch is really great with saving .trk files.

Bump.

It does exactly what it says on the tin, folks.

Including the bit about dizziness and hallucinations.

This is good stuff.

I haven't been into saving tracks recently, since I have so many of them stockpiled that I never can find the ones I'm thinking of. Wish I could look through them as fast as screenshots... I guess I should write them down or something.

I haven't even tried this script yet, and here I am hosting it. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-surprised.gif
