Who needs search lights if all the aircraft fly around with their navigation lights on?!!Totally unrealistic and reduces this thing to arcade standard.
Please get rid of this ridiculous automatic switching on of nav lights.

Its a bug...but it hardly is arcade.

Hopefully they do fix that problem...

I have also mentioned this and submitted a report. With luck it shall be corrected. Not exactly unplayable either, is it? Calm down.

As AI can see as well at night as in day, could we not have AI only nightfighter versions of the 110, 189 etc. Would it be to much work?

It would be wonderfull to fly a He219. The problem with night figthers is that your AI enemies can see as clear at night as at day, and this AFAIK cannot be changed, so... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

And what's night fighting without an operative radar? I'm afraid this is not easy to implement in the game.

Nightfighting without radar, is looking for the enemy very hard with your eyes in combination with searchlights like they did before airborne radar came along. Ground radar vectored the interceptor to the close vicinity but the final contact was always visual.Thats why the game is spoilt by having nav lights glaring brightly from miles away.I hope its fixed, but I doubt it.

Night missions...

If you read history books the night missions were a specialized warfare, and not much progress was made until radars were better.

The thing about the nav lights is fine for "OFFLINE" play, because the player is the only one disadvantaged without nav lights. The AI can see in all circumstances, weather, clouds or darkness. Sure the Offline player can set the icons on, and that helps too. Regardless, don't think it's possible to have an AI that can't see in the dark, clouds or weather.

If you've really got to do the night vision bit, you might want to check into the sims that have radar. Then everyone sees in the dark.

Also, about the time the player can see the nav lights of other aircraft the icons would be visible as well. So, I can't see a reason to do anything about them. I actually enjoy them more than the darned icons, and I sure don't want to go blind against "ALL SEEING AI".

Make your own, My night bomb missions are playable and work fine. granted its somtimes hard to find the bombers but once the search lights get on them you can vector quickly to the area. sounds like your a noob that needs icons on also you should probably go back to CFS2

No, I don't think it's possible, but they can decrease their awareness range, this is, the distance they notice there're enemies near and react. THe only difficulty for this is making different awareness range for night or bad weather, but if they can make the nav lights detect it...

This is true...nightfighting took on all kinds of forms. The immersion factor of nav lights being on at night (apparently when near any airfield is the bug - should only appear at takeoff and landing) is certainly lacking but once again it doesn't reduce the game to "arcade standard".

I don't remember this being a bug before...so hopefully its a recent bug and can be fixed.

These are actually trivial excersises in game programming--I do similar things in my spacecraft combat sim with planets/moons getting in between dueling groups of space craft. Although the FB clouds as fixed map pure grafix features may not be available to the GAME engine so FB AI vision will not be able to have vision crippled by clouds.

I've noticed that yes..the enemy bombers have nav lights on, until they start to get close to the target, I've noticed they turn em off. Then as they leave, turn em back on.

That's the point: They have an awareness range set. This means that they react to you just when you enter inside a radius around them. I think it should be not too hard to decrease that radius in night flying settings.

After all, we know night flight settings exist: they're used to switch nav lights on, so the sim knows when it's day and when it's night.
