Will buying a 19inch screen (Im using a 17inch at present) make shooting any easier? i.e you get a bigger target.

Just a thought. I need to improve my shooting big time.

Um... I don't know how to... uh... reply to that. Think about it and see what you come up with.

I wonder the same and figure that it wont make a difference when deflection shooting BUT will make a difference when looking to see where the enemy is headed from further away. That is a big thing in a dogfight and a 16inch monitor steals alot of this away. You need to go to zoom view to get a good view but then you lose so much view space and orientation.

Thats my problem. Having to use zoom view then losing the target flicking back to another view and before I know it Ive lost the plane altogether.

I know the question sounds odd but there is method to its madnesshttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ummm thats what I think will happen.See if it bigger than you dont need to go to zoom view as much????Please someone add their opinions who has upgraded from small to big monitor in FB.

I just upgraded from a 15" to a 19" and think it help tremendously for the very reasons which you gave. Hey, why wouldn't it? Bigger target=easier to hit. Basic.

Started with a 17" crt. Went to a 19" flat screen crt. Then went to a 19" LCD. Bigger screen is better for everything. Shooting? can't say for sure, but I know it's much more enjoyable and that's what really matters.

I use a 32" plasma with 2 19" LCD with my matrox card.. but for that "2 year old at an airshow" feeling I occasionaly use the projector. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I have to say it really doesn't improve your aim any, but it does allow 2 things.

First its alot easier to identify planes at a distance.

Second, it allows you to really see the tracers as they fly by your plane from behind just before you have to eject. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

A 19" LCD or a 21" CRT will be sufficient... trust one who has spent way to much money on a system and wishes to have some of that cash back. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Thats cool, but expensive.

I was wanting a projector, but bulbs die too soon and cost too much.

I did a lot of research before I settled on a display. I've got a 29" mitsubishi on its way to me. I see them on ebay all the time for $500-$900, but got lucky and snagged one for $100.

Actually, that is much bigger than a real cockpit. Not much real. And it's expensive. And make me envious... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

Owl:

I have the Matrox Parhelia 256MB card.

My frame rates average between 25 and 40 depending on the server and amount of planes on screen.

Baldie:

Actually I got one heck of a deal on this projector.. 1250.00 CDN (am in Canada, Eh) but it retails for 3200.00, hard to say no when we were looking at Sony Vegas at 1399.00 to start with.

The bulb is guaranteed for a year (cost 20.00 extra.. big deal) and only cost 100.00 to replace when it goes after that time.

They estimate the average life to be around 1.5 years, I figure a 100. a year or so is no big deal... spend that on computer toys easy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Oh and awsome price on the 29"!

DuxCorvan:

I realise that its bigger.. thats why I said "that "2 year old at an airshow"" feeling.
Did you never sit in a plane at an airshow as a kid? They seemed HUUUGE... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

As for being single... nope am married with 2 kids... 5 and 1.

I just have to keep her happy... and occasionally modify a reciept or just "lose" it on the way home. lol

Swein:

Answered the pm... hope it helps.

Thanks Lonewulf
for the reply
Been wanting to get a Parhelia card. Is the 256 worth the price.
Have a old matrox G400 max and 450. Both are great for duel setups. The color is better then my ATi cards.
Matter a fact your the first I have seen to have the 256 version.
Was it worth the price?

That sig pic is way too wide. Forum rules are -

Dimension limit: 400x200 pixels
File size limit: 30KB.

Please fix it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey Wulf, can you post a shot of your plasma with IL-2 playing or maybe a screenshot of the game with the 32 inch. I'd like to see it. Thanks

Sorry for the delay in getting back here... work comes first, or no cash for playing later. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Owl:

As far as the price vs. worth it issue... how would I know? I have nothing but an old GeForce 4 4600Ti to compare it too.

I myself LOVE the 3 screen ability.

I suppose I could have saved over half the price (almost $900.00 CDN) and got the 128 Mb instead, but I was thinking on keeping this card around for a few years and the extra memory might come in handy.

I guess now that I have made a short answer long... yeah it was worth it, IMO.

Here is a screenshot.. the pic of the whole system will take awhile if you really want that.. only on pic number 4 of 32 on the film roll.

(sure hope Tully doesn't mind the size as its not resized) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif Just kidding.. I never bothered to read the rules... just made the sig fit on a standard 800 wide page.

http://img20.photobucket.com/albums/v61/the1cr/Plasma_Pic2.jpg

Edit to add this:

This is running with antialias off btw for faster framerates.

While it fit on an 800x600 desktop, even at 1024x768 (my desktop) it was forcing the forum wide enough to need horizontal scroll to read all the text.

Model: MITSUBISHI XC-2930C

Be carefull when looking for this type display as some are indeed low-res setups. There are also some that are TV's with scan-line converters, which really suck.

Mitsubishi makes a 33" inch model that only does 800x600. Avoid it. Look for the Megaview "Pro" models.

If you watch ebay long enough, you'll find one at a good price.

Oh yea, doe sthe three screen setup really put a strain on the computer or is it not as affected with the Matrox card? Thanks

This particular shot was at 1280 X 960, I often change my resolution to experiment with pix.

When the roll of film is done I shall post a pic of my setup for ya, np.

My understanding is that the framerates are apparently divided among the 3 screens, if this is so... then I must be getting somewhere around 75 to 120 on one screen...

My system seems to be running it ok without any problems but it might be due to the 256 Mb card.
