I hope they depict from time to time a torpedo hitting its own boat!

Good question indeed; I have a list here, but I cant wait to see theirs.

Furthermore, will they behave realistically (duds) according to time of development. etc.

Just a little reminder to compare with the very soon (I hope) final answer :

type Motor Range/Speed

G7a T1 Compressed air 6000m/44kts
8000m/40kts
14000m/30kts

G7e T2/T3 Electric 5000m/30kts

T4 Electric 7500m/20kts

G7s T5/T11 Electric 5700m/24kts

The T1/2/3/4 were "conventionnal" torpedoes, with magnetic or influence fuse.

The T5/11 were homing torpedoes (active with sound sensors).

And don't forget the LUT and FAT pattern.

1 september 1939 : electrical /compressed air G7e and a model

however: my figures are different:

30kts 20.000 m
40kts 10.000 m
44 kts 6000 m

fot the compressed air G7.

hmmmm...You mean the FAT or LUT patterns ?

In fact the T3 (TIIIa and some other types) mentionned above could have this pattern set before firing.

The FAT (Flachenabsuchender torpedo) was a pattern running torpedo made especially for convoy attacks. The torpedo was pre set to run in a zig zag pattern! First it went straight (against the main target) then turned over to left or right and proceeded for 800 or 1600 meters making the next turn opposite.

Another version of this pattern is the LUT.

I have checked with my books and over the net,
20000m at 30knts seems too important.
The usual range is 12500m at 30 and 8000 at 40, for the gas steam system.

has this subject already been discussed before ?
I thought it would have received more replies.

Is this question more important than a problem of life boat or am I wrong ? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The torps will be our main way to accomplish our mission, dont forget it ! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Sorry about that! Guess they changed the URL since I copied it. Will make sure to check them when I post them from now on.
The link works for now thoughSilent Hunter III FAQ (http://207.44.164.159/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=23215), but 'How many links have been posted with the old URL?' They don't want anyone copying and pasting the questions, just pointing to the FAQ. But then they go and change the URL!! Makes no sense to me.

Question H4 says 'All main torpedo types used by U-boats will be present in the game.'
