I wonder when are we going to have ground objects and landscape of this detail?!

These are some screenshots of a new strategy developed by 1C based on IL2:Sturmovik engine.
In Russia the game is called simply WWII,
in Europe it's going to be published by Codemasters and carry a different name.

Those look like FB clouds. Is that a Beta screenshot or can't Oleg improve upon the weather from FB?

It would be nice to have terrain like that in a flight sim

But I`d rather like the BoB code optimised for 100+ aircraft then such landscape.
But in 5 years or so...
Who knows.

I'll second what HuninMunin said.. I'd much rather have the code optimized for the air-war.

But then, I don't think there's really that much difference between those landscapes and what you can find even today in a game like WWII Online.

But, every game has to make trade offs in today's market. IL2FB trades some low-level graphics and pretty ground objects in exchange for incredibly beautiful aerial images, special effects and flight fidelity. WWII Online has to try and balance everything and as such, doesn't have nearly the quality of air-graphics, the depth of engine management or other eye-candy.

I saw a very early preview of this game last year in a British magazine.

They said when an anti tank crew got nailed by a tank, the one man left started doing all the loading aiming and firing himself, damn good.

back in il2 sturmovik when FB was being made didnt they test grass effect on the maps but they kills fps too much?

5 years from now? fb could have landscape like that now so could bob and get better fps then we are getting in fb, part of the problem is the game programmed in java which is why the game runs like it does you need c+++ which is 100000 times better but much more difficult. Java is just easier especially with making quick changes. Im sure they will say java is better but its not. Just like thier synth sound engine which is absolutely horable. Worst sounds out of any flight sim in the last 6 years.

Not to bash ubi or anything FB/AEP is the best looking flight sim to date and has great campaigns offline. And Im addicted to this damn sim and the minor problems it has, every patch there seems to be more then were fixed

I'm pretty sure someone had a download of the java directory that worked best, but of course this may not work aswell now.

What parts of the game exactly use Java?

Lead, I am pretty sure the core game engine is C++.

Only the GUI - ie. menu's, etc... are java.

5 years from now...does this mean BoB will look like that? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(I personally think that rts would make a better fps - then again, I don't like rts games at all)

BoB may look like that.
But its sceduled for 2005, and I dont think we have the comps to make it look like that, then.
But 2009, thats a whole different story.

Well at this point I'd be thrilled with Fall maps (vs. just winter and summer)...and even non moving soldiers around certain things like Cannon.

It has been mentioned that Battle of Britain would use parts of the ground detail engine from this game in BoB except that it would be streamlined for use in a flight sim instead of all of the details that are present for the ground sim.

So in other words, its going to be similar just designed for the flight sim aspect rather than the ground one.

Polygonal and texture details aside, we already get a good portion of whats present in those shots in FB perfect mode.

I expect BoB will look quite a bit like this, except with better skies.

What Recon said, only GUI's are in Java. Core engine is in a "real" language.

It's doable in 2005. You'll need a dual PCI-E SLI Nvidia cards, dual P4 3.5 w/ 2GB of Cosair RAM. Price: $5000
