I'm thinking of getting a 9700 Pro.
I can't really afford much more, I've done some research and discovered that the cards themselves do NOT list Win98se as a supported OS.

Is this the case??

For that matter do the nVidia FX cards support Win98SE.
or should I just get a ti4800

Earnestly awaiting replies.

Thanks

I have no experience at all with the better Nvidia cards. My last one was a GF2MX400...but if you can afford a 9700Pro get it. I am working on it. I have a 9000 now..which will go to the kids. From what I have heard it is a grat card...in fact I dont think i have seen ONE complaint about it that couldnt be attributed to some kind of configuration error.

As far as I can tell, I'm running my 9700Pro just fine on Win98SE - the ATI driver update page still shows 98SE as being supported by the various Catalyst driver updates. Not sure what the box said, but I haven't seen/heard anything about 98SE not being supported until this thread.

Thanks All.

I went to the following URL

http://www.hightech.com.hk/html/9700pro.htm

as you can see it says under drivers included:

Windowsâ® XP
Windowsâ® 2000
Windowsâ® ME

Just checking with y'all.

By the by any one got a hightech brand 9700 pro.

Cheers

98se and ati 9700pro here.

The only problem I know of is that 98se doesnt like too much ram (above 712).

Having said that, you can run more (I have 1 gb--2x512) but it requires some tinkering to get it to run. I didn't set it up but it runs just fine.

I recently upgraded to the 9700 Pro and I freaking love it. Not only is the eye candy great, but it really improves your gunnery, at least it did for me.

Yeah, ATI technically doesn't have "signed" drivers for 98SE -- they stopped supporting 98 last year. According to their site...

"As of July 1, 2002 Microsoft stopped accepting submissions for driver certification testing under the Windows 98/98SE environment. Due to this ATI is unable to offer further certified display drivers for Windows 98/98SE."

So, they're actually the *Windows ME* drivers. However, I'm running the latest ATI drivers under 98SE (Catalyst 3.4), and it's working just fine.

Well you really should move on from win 98se. Sure it still runs most applications okay but I am sure you will find win xp or win 2000 to be a much better gaming system, especially if you got more than 256 mb of RAM. You will get much better driver support overall for all your computer components not only your video card.
