As the title says, the guy, are we going to get a nice detailed little man in the drivers seat?

With all the claims of accuracy for FB the one thing that visually killed it for me is http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif the 1960's flight helmet on that man, no matter how skilled the skinners are, there it is.

I hope some one takes the time to produce or talk to those who already have spent alot of time making quality pilot skins.

Before I get the aren't there better things to worry about thing in response, we all drift off into the old that's me in that cockpit at some stage, and I want to look as good the great aircraft skins do when it happens.

It's more a case of just one of those cool things we notice when something is released and say wow they did the homework on that.

I only mention this in case no one thought about it yet, keep the ideas rolling in I say, you never know what may pop up in the final product.

Happy easter all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I don't understand what you mean about the 1960's flight helmets...

As far as actual use of hard helmets goes, test pilots in the '30s and '40s wore helmets that were adapted from auto racing helmets- not leather ones http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If I understand the question, you think the pilot's features and apparel are unrealistic. I don't think that's true with FB; there are a dozen options available for changing the pilot's flight suit, helmet and even face. Go to IL2skin.com and look at the hundreds of pilot 'skins' there. You can paste them in the Pilot file and, in QMB, apply them to individual planes if you want. Aces High offers an endless selection on his website.

For fun, I've even added the faces of my children to pilot skins. They find it amusing, but always wish I'd used a "good" picture of them. Felial ingratitude!

The helmet is indeed wrong - it's too thick, at least for the Pacific, and the bulge on the forehead was not used by any country there.

The goggles are also the wrong shape.

Anyway, I don't know how much we'll be able to do, but you should see greatly varied models and uniforms for different service brances of all countries, and possibly even different uniforms for different time periods.

How about different painting for ships and aircrafts for different time periods? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well the helmet in FB is the inner leather helmet for the soviet hard helmet system used from the 60,s till quiet recently, the bulge on top fits into a slot in to inside of the shell, so yeah its about as wrong as you could get.

As for the guy from FB, yes he has been greatly improved by the skinner out there, thats not the question.

Luthier1 gave the answer I was after, don,t just drag the pilot across from FB, spend some time on it for accuracies sake, make him look like a pilot in the pacific area.

hi,
whatever helmet 'the guy in the PF planes cockpit' will wear:
he will sit in the cockpit as a 'gnomish pilot' in 'all' planes in the event of this 'new' PF game will use the 'old corrupt camera view system of IL2/FB' to create the virtual pilot and combat view.
I don't care about the outside looking helmets if they are near the types of historic design.

we will get 'old wine in new bottles' in case of the important 'virtual pilot and combat view'

one of the few most important part in a combat flightsim !
