Hello, I want to get track IR, but I'm running an 8 yr. old Dell computer that's never been upgraded. It is a Pentium 3, NVidia Geforce 2, with 384 MB of RAM, or something close to that number. Yes, I'm surprised it runs FB too!

THe thing is, my 8 year old computer runs FB pretty well, as well as Lo-mac with a few changes, though I have to wait until 1.02 for Lo-mac to really start working.

My question is, which version of TrackIR uses the least amount of my CPU. Which one would be better for mky computer?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Boosher http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Don't buy a piece of gear that is probably worth more than your pc at the moment. Instead, get yourself a webcam, if you don't have one already, and go here to download this excellent software. It turns your webcam into a head tracker http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Now, it is not as good as TrackIR, but it is resource friendly, and inexpensive. Save your big bucks for the computer upgrade, Boosher.

I have to agree Boosher, save your money for the PC upgrade. Get TIR after you get a new PC bro. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Trackir is GREAT, don't believe otherwise. But I totally agree with tsisqua and Eagle. Be ure od the priorities.... save money for upgrade FIRST. THEN think about getting other stuff...

You guys are kidding right?

1) To actually answer your question, TIR takes only a few % resources, much like your mouse would.

2) It doesn't make sense to use a 'head tracker' software because all the calculations would be done in software not hardware like a TIR! You said you wanted to save CPU cycles?

3) You should be able to find a TIR1 or TIR2 cheap on e-bay although I haven't looked there are bound to be people upgrading. If not, I've got a TIR1 and a TIR2 I may part with now that I have a TIR3pro.

I agree you will be much happier with more CPU if you can afford it but I don't know where you will get a new mobo, cpu, and ram for around $100.

I'd say PriK is right here - just on the processing load issue.

Another point:
By the time you've paid for a suitable web-cam, you'll be more than half-way to paying for a new TrackIR.

I've given up correcting my own spelling
Unless I've corrected it here

Not true. A 10 dollar webcam is fine. Actually, according to Lev Levosky, the lead developer, the cheaper the better http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

BTW, the software is upgraded, all future upgrades are FREE, and the software is LESS than 10 bucks . . . 30 day FREE trial, in case you want to check it out.

I think you are right about the CPU usage, but I was trying to think economy, and it does use very minimal resources.

Yeh P3 eight years ago nope not even p2 let alone geforce 2 but so you got your numbers messed up. No big deal.

Look on ebay or the like and get a used TIR for about the price of a web cam. Maybey a shade more. But I'd say you could find one for $70.00 US for sure if you looked a bit. It uses no more resources than a usb mouse. I'd sell mine but am going to wait a bit and skip TIR2 and get TIR3 That is If I can talk myself into it. Since this one works jsut fine.
