View Full Version : Ideas for easy to implement graphical tweaks/effects

With development presumably nearing the finis for pf, I though it might be an idea to start a single thread to collate graphical tweaks and effects which might be EASY to implement & add to immersion and the whole experience.

- smoke that hangs around more from firing guns
- smoke from engines when throttle suddenly floored
- flames from exhausts when firing up the engine
- tip vortex contrails off propellor tips in humid / stormy weather (may be more difficult to implement)
- skid textures on ground from belly landings, + more dust + dirt from ground when belly landing (may be difficult to implement)

Use an extant cloud as a template, repaint it black or grey, and create smoke clouds from bombing attacks.

Plane wrecks smoke, damaged ships smoke, ground objects smoke briefly... make a toggle in FMB so we can turn on smoke for any ground object we like (for when it gets destroyed).

If they can reduce muzzle flash with increased transparency at some point, do the same for tracer smoke.

Tree objects that get bombed/rocketed make a big grey puff, then disappear right now. That means they have a damage state, but it is clear. Change the damage state to shredded trees with stumps, and a few leaves left.

Add a big smoke column for oil tanks. As big as they can do it, it can be like a cloud now instead of animated since they don't seem to hurt FR.

I wonder if there'll be sea sounds audible when parked on a carrier - that would be mucho cool, and presumably v. easy to implement. Could be a bit like the current air raid siren but waves crashing instead. Could even have different sounds for weather conditions - quiet in calm and loud waves crashing in storms.

I just wanted to post a short reply about graphics tweaks. I have an idea (unoriginal I'm sure, but I can't find it in any other post).

I'd like to see repaintable CV's and other ships, not just the aircraft. I have extensive documentation on the markings used by my virtual squadron's namesake from WWII, and I'd LOVE to repaint both the F6F Hellcat and the beloved U.S.S. Bunker Hill (CV-17).

Hopefully this wouldn't be too difficult to arrange? I've already done it for CFS2, but I wanna do it for our new sim coming in October too!

I don´t belive theres time to implement this excellent aditions but here are may 2 cents...

- Don´t forget the different colour smoke for different kind of engine damage proposed in the other thread.
Green, black, grey...

- Reduce the time a plane wreck produces thick black smoke (its way to long right now)

- Reduce the smoke (or make it more transparent) on AAA tracers It way to much IMHO. Maybe make tracers stand aout more and get rid of the smoke (20/25mm I mean)

All of the above are just grate, I hope the Dev. team has time to implement some of them.

I wish for quick few second short flames when you hit enemy plane,some of the so called damage boxes should not only provide hole in plane but also those two three second small fire eruption http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif if we can have engine in flames i don't think it should be too much to implement to some damage boxes. Sorry maybe i'm watching too much WWII gun camera films. Hmm, things I'd like? I like the idea of more smoke from guns firing, and especially like the smoke coming out of the engine when the throttle is jammed forward. That'd rock! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Other than that, the only other thing that would make my day would be to have the tracers more yellow and smaller.

I once was driving in a cab to see my aunt off at the airport when I saw a small private airplane (Cessna-size) on fire at one of the private sectors of General Mitchell Airport. Huge black mushroom cloud. Really unbelievable.

I would really like to see a Lo-Mac esque "Jiggle Cam" Also, if you're an Aqua Teen Hunger Force fan you can say "Commence the jigglin' ya'll!" when you turn it on.
