I hate you guys! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I haven't my AEP copy yet!

Just to make me cry a bit louder, anyone can give me an account of how the Cr42 is handling? Have you tried the G50 too?

Ciao. The CR.42 is beautiful. Cockpit is nice, but its hard to see out of. Difficult in combat w/o padlock. the armament is nice but you have to get close<50m to score with the bredas. Beautiful maneuvering, can't stall, but slow.

The freccia is wonderful also, Beautiful view out of cockpit in the air, but terrible on the ground. Can't see a thing when taxiing. Very maneuverable, but slow, and loses energy fast, so be careful......

Both Fiats have the Finest instrument guages you will ever see in the FB. Real 1930~esque. When you get to try it, turn the cockpit lights on. Beautiful. hmmm, I have not tried this in the dark or twilight. It should be even more pretty then.

When you're flying the Cr42 or the Gladiator, you're basically looking through the vision slits of a tank. Very easy to lose track of enemies with all the hardware above and around you, but biplane duels are a blast.

I agree. The first thing that struck me about this plane was the extemely wide field of vision out of it's cockpit.

I still haven't killed, or for that matter hit anything with this one - need more practice I guess.

My first online hop in a CR.42, I shot down a YP-80. He must not have taken me seriously, 'cause he just kept yo-yoing with a P-51. I separated and climbed out, came back and caught him with his pants down. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

The greatest problems I have with Cr42 is bad visibility from cockpit and even worse muzzle flash, when shooting the flash blocks entire field of view http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Some very good comments on the early war planes. The analogy of "looking through a tank slit" is a very good one I think for the Gladiator, and the CR42...as for the Fiat G.50, that pit is best characterized by the term "like flying a bathtub while laying on your back"...bottom line is all are a real blast to fly.

I built a "Greece 1940" Dogfight arena that we put up on our server two nights ago, using the Online Summer 3 map, and we just had great fun. The Finnish Continuation War we played last night was just as good...great stuff this AEP!

All the best, Don

I agree that the Falco is great to fly. The Gladiator is also superb - the only things that spoil it is the horrible foggy gunsight (thru which you can see pratically nothing) and the way that the plane can do very very tight turns, even at very high speeds, withhout spinning, compressing or losing much energy http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Having played alot of Falco vs Gladiator LAN games with friends, this has been a bit of disappointment.

The Biplane front view is cramped, and some may like to go back to the gull wing P11 and I~153, that's why they made gull wings, so you can see something, from time to time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Mike,
These missions, and many others, are hosted on the FA Server, which is normally up on Hyperlobby...we use "full real" with speed bar and mini-map icons only, so that may be a little more "full real" than some folks like, but we enjoy it. Come-in anytime, and I will bring these maps up just for you http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

I will also be glad to send them to you...here is the mission brief from the Greece 40 map, just to wet your appetite:

Name Greece40
Scenario: Greece 1940
Map: Online Summer 3
Weather: Good
Date/Time: November/1200L

Red Planes: British Gloster Gladiator IIs(J8A)Blue Planes: Italian Fiat CR. 42s and G.50s

Historical Background: When Italy attacked Greece from Albania in Oct. 1940, the Greek Government asked Britain for assistance, and by November two Gladiator and three Blenheim squadrons were transferred from the Desert.

The Italians had 140 fighters on hand including two Gruppi of their latest G.50 monoplane fighters. Weather conditions during the Greek winter were awful, often causing operations to be suspended for weeks. Constant rain turned airfields into quagmires, while low clouds were a constant menace.

Mission: Today you fight a true "Forgotten Battle". The rain has finally stopped! Get airborne and establish local air superiority. Blue has 60 minutes to destroy the designated number of enemy planes/pilots

Before hitting "Fly", please ensure you have the proper aircraft markings (United Kingdom for Red, Italy for Blue), fuel level, bomb delay, convergence, and weapon loadouts.

In order to maximize performance, please use default aircraft and pilot skins only, and turn "Skin Downloads" off.

Hope to see you soon, All the best, Don

The Cr42 has an alarming tendency to catch fire, and doesn't seem to be much of a match for the Gladiator. Apart from that, it's great...

well , you have to Boom&Zoom against the Gladiators while sitting in Cr42 - works very well - don tturn with them , they can turn on half a dime http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
