Don't care. FP is mostly land based Pacific/China (or Asia) for me.

Who needs navy?

It's already confirmed that we'll have folding wings.

How often was this feature important to a mission in CFS2?

Folding wings were very essential on crowded carrier decks. IIRC,CFS2 carriers were unrealistically small(meaning less planes on the deck) and planes couldn't be placed extremely close together,so this folding wings feature wasn't quite as essential.

If lots of people/squads are playing PF online, carriers will be crowded. Also, folding wings are historically/asthetically pleasing.

It was pointless to have folding wings in CFS 2 becauase the Ai was never on the Carrier.

When playing online the crash bubble would kill you at the same time regardless of if you had them down or up.

PF will have Ai on the deck and there is not a crash bubble, so it will be very helpful.

A lot of earlier games and sims (and some current ones, but not FB) use simplified hit detection and collision detection. If two aicraft get within a fixed distance of each other, the game considers them crashed regardless of whether they're actually touching or not. Since the distance is calculated from a point (usually the model's centre of gravity point), not from the nearest physical part of the plane, the crash zone is spherical or "bubble" shaped, hence "collision bubble".

Hit detection for guns was done in a similar fashion, though in some sims there would be several smaller bubbles placed around the plane to allow the game to differentiate between wing hits, fuselage hits, etc.

In the un-modded version of most games using this system, the bubbles were somwhat larger than ideal, making taxiing in close proximity a hazardous occupation http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Development/Community - Thanks everyone for your input. Thanks for adding folding wings! They look great.

They have always been there, nothing to poll about, check the screen shots, lol.

To me, not having folding wings for some of the carrier planes is like not having air intakes for some radial engine planes.

I suppose one thing that can be done is to see how far planes go with the wings folded http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I really want to see how well the zero goes though with its wing tips up though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Maybe I'm alone on this, but does anyone else love a good game of TAXI WARS(tm) now and then?

Basically, it's dogfighting on the ground. The object is to gain enough speed to get your tail off of the ground (so you can aim your guns) without actually taking flight.

Judicious use of rudder and braking allow you to steer. (sort of)

It's pretty difficult, but a lot of fun (in a demented way) once you get the hang of it.

I imagine with the wings folded option (and hence much less lift to contend with) we'll be able to get away with quite a lot more speed..

Anyone want to start up a ground-racing league?

once again we see the knucklehead factor illustrated sublimely.

if engineers had any idea what the end users ultimately would do with their inventions, they would keep their slide-rules and calculators in their pockets and back away slowly...thats right...no sudden movements..shhhh... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Does anyone else think it rather silly of the Japanese to only make about a foot of the wing on those zeros fold? It's practically pointless.

This can be solved quite easily, lol.. MORE CARRIERS!
