After purusing il2skins I find there are no skins for airambulance C-47's (or Li-2's). there are several for the Storch and Ju-52, but none for the Allies.

I'm looking for photos of C-47's used as 'medevac'/air ambulances. I've Googled for them, find plenty of C-47's but none with the red cross. They were marked for that were they not?

If anyone can direct me to any it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This doesn't show the Red Cross markings but does show an individual C-47 air ambulance nose markings"

Thanks Zyzbot.

It's a start. Do you know where I can go to look for the logo on the nose?

TIA

Hey Major

A link here

Some DH RAAF shots...not exactly what you are looking for, but a start. There's not much around is there? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

This site has a photo of a C-47 air ambulance...but it seems to have normal markings.

http://www.315group.org/nurses.htm

...and this site says that some did not carry Red Cross markings:

http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123007904
"Right after D-Day began, fully loaded glider planes flew to the front lines with supplies, Captain Keil said. The flight nurses soon followed on Douglas C-47s, landing in the fields of France, as close to Omaha beach as possible.

Because the C-47s were also filled with military supplies, the aircraft did not carry Red Cross markings, which meant no protection from enemy fire."

Zyzbot

Again, thank you for the links.

That would explain why there are no pictures of C-47's with Red Cross markings.

So if I make a C-47 skin with Red Crosses it would be historically inaccurate. That's a shame. I've just spent two days dealing with the distortion of the C-47 skin.

Fortunately I learned a lot about skinning so it wasn't a total waste.

Again thanks Zyzbot and Dubbo2 for taking the time to help me research this.

zjulik;

Yes I had found that link but the plane:
http://www.paf.mil.ph/Gallery2/images/C47_05.jpg
is not US marked, which was what I was looking for. This appears to be a post war Phillipine Airlines plane.

Thanks anyway for your effort.

S!
