Who`s Zen? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think Good is optimal with clouds height of 1000m, 9AM or 5pm time freeze

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Forget Night and Driving Rain, those are good for offline but a real nightmare on-, except maybe in a coop. It needs real teamwork to get the most out of those.

I voted 'some'. Nothing worse than the noonday sun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. Mad dogs and Englishmen and all that.....

I think a little variety in the weather is good. Granted while the fog, mist and clouds down low make it hard for me to find targets in the p38 the weather also gives me some cover from the B&Z guys. More weather effects are fine, so i voted for moderate.

"It was a marveleous aircraft! It was the best aircraft I flew in the war by far. I never flew the P-51, its been one of my life regrets, but I flew just about everything else there was. I liked the P-38s rate of climb, its speed, the way it handled, and its firepower directly out the nose. The P-38 would turn with almost anything, in fact it would out turn the P-47, out climb it, and out maneuver it. The P-38 was one of the great aircraft of WWII."...Charles MacDonald, P-38 Ace

i like moderate... when ive had a ton of bogeys on my tail, with seemingly no hope of escape in the past, a cloud can be your best friend (as long as you can fly by instruments)

06-03-2004, 12:04 PM
high noon with clouds is best. unless you prefer fighting the weather more than fighting the bogeys

While I would like to fly in severe weather sometimes, my rig can barely handle it offline.

I simply like a mix of things, high noon low clouds here, 6:00 AM Mist, etc.

Oh yeah, the missions of yours I've played so far have been fun.

Variety is the spice of life mate!

While I have a couple midday missions for DF, I too like objective-based scripted missions involving bombers.

I like sunrise/sunset, and I like the early morning mist. Don't forget to lock your TOD if you want that effect throughout the mission.

With regards to bombing raids, I think it is also important to consider cloud height. Ideally, if a bombing mission could be postponed it would in order to allow for proper weather. This usually meant no cloud cover over the target zone.

For this game, and especially depending on the type of ground attack (i.e., IL-2), you may like to use low clouds to help hide bombers from the defenders stalking high above. Also, I find few seem to use the automation systems and will therefore stay low and dive bomb (instead of staying 2000+ metres above).

It would be nice to see a variety of weather effects on servers, provided visibility is kept reasonable. And for those who like the challenges of more severe weather and night flying there should be also such servers I suppose, just personally not interested in them regardless of the argument.

Best regards,

"Concealment and swiftness are the two principal elements of closing." (Colonel V. Dubrov, Soviet Air Force)

They're good as designed.. so whatever you're doing.. keep doing it!

On an off-topic note.. how about increasing the server times a bit to allow for more time in non-peak hours? When there is only about 15 or so pilots, the mission objectives are rarely met, nor are the number of planes/pilots usually in any danger of hitting zero.

Hype, I don't see a PT about anything, but thanks for the vote on whatever that was http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I'll be on messenger when you want to get together.

Turo, I'll pass along the time limit suggestion to SPaRX

Some of each, but more good than bad, and forget nights.

06-04-2004, 12:40 AM
Hi, -Zen- I vote for you

I think just set the weather that pilot in history perfer to fly.

pls, don't set it too dark coz I can not see runway to make a coffee brake http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

06-04-2004, 01:38 AM
I would prefer night-time,low cloud,rain/snow with no icons and no map icons!! That makes for a nerveracking tense time!!!!Oh and cockpit only.I have the room blacked out for glare and a flask of black coffee for the nerves.
Try finding anything in these conditions-takes ages-and the feeling of victory is hightened! The feeling of wasting an hour when you get shot at first contact is not the same!
Yeah-more night missions in the rain!!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

hey Zen I Like

None, Some & Moderate myself I voted Some.

I realy love a great clear day for Pounding but weather missions are good too.

Extream weather is not fun Snow & Wind is junk imo in real life they would plan for good weather.

Personaly I think Flack is overmodled & needs to be trimed back about 50% http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Its just to dam thick on some of the current maps.

06-04-2004, 02:02 AM
Zen as far as haze & fog goes its all good but the one problem I see is that between dogeing fighters & all that flack/aaa & trying to find the target its just to damed much.

Exzample the desert map Sure its challanging but its a lil extream in some wayes.

It could be reworked lightley it would still be very hard but not near as hard as it is now.

Im going to work on a tank busting senerio where bolth red & blue are on offence & defence
Its almost done as we speak just need to work it a lil bit more. Maybe Sparx will like it maybe not we will see.

Anything from None to Moderate (with a very rare excursion into Severe) is fine with me. I voted Some.

My sentiments mirror Tully's. I'm mostly on the fence between "some" and "moderate". I think occassional weather adds diversity and likewise a different dimension of fun.

My only concern here is the FPS hit that complex weather adds to most machines. If it's playable and smooth, I think there's an occassion for every weather condition. If it's not playable, it's just a waste of time.

Thanks for the responses so far gentlemen and have no fear, I don't like night or blind missions either and am not steering that way.

The current mission set I have is a step more weathered than Tihany, but targets are in a logical position and should be relatively easy to locate.

And the flak will definately be less, something has changed in 2.01 and it's far more deadly than it used to be. Probably time to adjust the current missions as well I think.
