find the games .exe file
look in Program files X86 \ Steam \Steam apps \ common \ Far Cry 3 \ bin

right click on the .exe file \ select properties

select the compatibility tab

check the box that says "run this program compatability mode"

and set it to Windows 7 fixes it for some ...

you can also set the .exe to run as an Administrator right there
too .....

or run the windows 10 Compatability more troubleshooter from that same window
as some times that does work for some other games and older windows applications

and try launching both steam as well as Uplay as Run As Administrator

next verify your game file why you have steam run as admin

To verify your files if you bought the game thru Steam ..\EXIT Steam ..right click your steam icon ..select run as Administrator

to launch Steam

then go to your Steam games library

right clik on your game

select properties

select local files

select verify Integrity of game cache

it takes a few min to do but its faster the redownloading your entire game , if its only a few files that were corrupt or installed incorrectly .... this in many cases will fix your problems in case you got a bad download or your game is missing a required file

I've been working with Ubisoft for weeks on this and finally fixed it myself. I opened the farcry3.exe properties and had to roll the compatibility all the way back to Windows 98/ME before it finally worked. I do have the "run as administrator" checked also.

I decided to play this for the 4th or 5th time. Installed a few days ago, started first go perfectly. Have played about 5 times - All flawless. Today the loading screen hangs forever.

If I verify the files it tries to download the entire game again
If I tell Uplay where my install folder is it doesnt find Far Cry 3.

I wasted my time and download quota (9.3Gb) re downloading the game a 2nd time and . . . . . . exactly the same issue. Uplay client is the worst out of every game client on earth. So my end result is I'm going to play DOOM via STEAM because when I launch the game it will load. Then I play it instead of ****ing around for days!

this is works but the game is lagging more than before, and the game won't started because is installed in drive that managed by Storage Spaces, to users windows 8\8.1\10, there is device called "Mircrosoft Storage Space Device" this thing is cause problem for ubisoft old games, for exmaple: Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, the only way to fix is download the game in drive that isn't managed Storage Spaces, which means in C:\, the drive that windows installed in, the game will works without any problems or lags

My system. Windows 10pro, i7-7700hq, GeForce 1060, Samsung EVO, 16MB. Mine would not launch with update installer opening or thru splash screen. You must set the game to OFFLINE ONLY!!. Now it opens every time and is the only way I have found it to work. I tried compatibility with the update installer file but that did not work.

2 Ways to get the game lunched. Way 1 is more confortable then way 2:

1) You can start the game just with the FC3Updater.exe or FC3Steamupdater.exe without changing anything.
Just make you a shortcut of the exe on your screen.
Also the name of the exe depends to what version you have.
Ubisoft or Steam. Its working with both.
You not have to rename but you can rename the shortcut on your desktop into Far Cry 3 and all is fine.

2) The compatibility mode for the Far Cry3.exe works, if you change to compatibility mode to Win 98 / Win Me.

You find both exe in the installation folder. They are in the folder bin.

to those who this didnt work for, there are 2 .exe files, if the main file does not work use the one that says something about directx11. right click into properties go to compatibility change it to windows 98/ me. open that .exe and run as admin, once in game click options/video/directx, it might say directx 9 change that to direct x 11 close the game and the regular .exe file should work if its compatibility is set to windows 98/me

This makes it even worse for me.

I have F3 Deluxe Edition on Steam. When I launch the game, Uplay opens and a seperate window asks if I want to run the normal version, or the Deluxe Edition. Setting farcry3.exe to windows 98/ME + run as admin, makes the Normal version work, but not the DE. Selecting DE gives this Uplay message:

"Starting game

Unable to start the game. Please check that your game has been installed correctly. If the problem persists, please contact Ubisoft Support."

If I do ANYTHING with the farcry3_d3d11.exe file (any compatibility mode, or run as admin, or any combination), this results in the following error:

"Far Cry 3 Updater

Failed to execute command: farcry3_d3d11.exe (error 740).
Please make sure this executable file exists".

Unchecking both compatibility mode and run as admin, removes this problem again.

Files checked, game reinstalled twice. Whatever I do, the Deluxe Edition will simply not run.

I just bought this game with Steam and unable to get passed and endless loading screen on launch.

Does this game simply not run on newer machines running Windows 10?

re-installed in C:...storage spaces assumed to be the issue. Uninstalled and deleted folder, after install in C: worked perfectly. Nothing else worked for me.

Got mine working eventually. Had to run the Farcry3.exe file in Win 98/ME compatibility and also tick "run as administrator" .

If you cannot see the compatibility tab for the exe file go to "File Explorer", click on "View", and make sure the "File Name Extensions" is ticked. There's no logical reason why this makes the compatibility tab appear...but it did for me.

Hope it works for anyone else reading this.

Well that was short lived. Game refused to load again until I R-clicked FarCry3.Exe and selected "Run as administrator". just having that instruction ticked under properties isn't good enough apparently.

But then, when playing the game it would periodically drop to single figure fps for no reason I could see. I think I'm giving up on this one.
