WooooooooooW! Just had the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster and one of the Spitfires (MkII?) fly right over my house at 500 ft or so on their way in to Biggin Hill. WooooooW - as I type the Lanc has just flown back again not quite over my house with the gear down on the way into land. 5 Merlins in one day - paradise.

My house was built in 1938 and is about 3 miles from Biggin Hill. The Lanc may have been a stranger to Biggin during WWII, but the Spit must feel at home. All very atmospheric - I'm swelling up here and my eyes are moist.

Sorry to rub in in, but in 2000, 60 years after BoB, I had 19, count them, 19 Spits and Hurricanes fly over the house in formation to and from the Biggin airshow. I had just moved in and the neighbours thought they had a madman as I ran up the garden with my camera, and step ladders (to see over the intervening bushes!!).

Task for the weekend - Camera at the ready waiting for the Lanc and Spit to depart.

Awesome, i was on the golf course the other day, and saw a P-40 circling overhead from the airshow here... then 4 F-16's flew over and ruined my nastalgic moment. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The BoB memorial flight is very impressive, the sound is awesome. I got to see the Lancaster at the of the Battle of Britian 50th anniversary airshow at Boscombe Down, On the last pass of its show it dropped the ton of poppies like it did on the D--Day memorial this year.

Nice!

Sept 12 in Ottawa at the Canada Aviation Museum there is a gathering of BoB pilots (annual event).

Last year was a flyover by a Spit 1V...fingers crossed we get it again.

But better than the flyover is the chance to meet and talk with the BoB pilots. Anyone in the area on Sept 12 - I highly recommend you pop in. Last year there was about 50 Spit and Hurricane pilots...from all over Ontario.

That same Lancaster flew over my house a couple of weeks ago too, just on it's own. It usually flies over atleast once a year

A couple of summers ago, I was working at a pub a few blocks from Buckingham Palace. During the Queen Mother's funeral, the Memorial Flight made several passes almost directly over the place. Unfortunately, I was behind the bar that day, and had to deal with the punters shouting: 'They're coming, Matt, come see! Oh, wait, best do me a pint. Sorry, they've gone.' The sound was quite stirring, nonetheless.

Prangerman...i had a similar experience earlier in the year, when the BBMF flew very low over my house on a early sunday morning, i was in deep sleep, but they woke me up and i was hanging out of my upstairs bedroom window within secounds...PHEW! what a glorious sound they make...made my day.
I now keep a lookout for Warbirds, which are far nicer than the usual aircraft in my area, i live between Bae Warton(eurofighter=noisey bugger) and Blackpool Airport (pleasure flight cessna(i think) and some tourist type bus), but recently i have seen these:

and also some really old biplanes (got to be WW1 era). I found these pictures at Blackpool spotters (http://www.blackpoolspotters.com/)...i've got to say its a great moment seeing these oldgirls flying just for that moment your able to step back in time some 60 years or more http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Edit:Oh and here they are:

Monty_Thrud - great pics. The blue BBFM Spit is painted in the colours of the last RAF Spitfire sortie. (Must get up to Blackpool sometime soon - to see a mucker in Whiteholme.)

FI.Spitsfire - Out of interest - Farnborough Kent, or Farnborough Hants?

Sorry I haven't replied sooner but I downloaded Win XP SP2 and haven't been able to get on the 'net. Turns out that there was a conflict with Zonealarm firewall. If it's not one thing it's another. Still get kicked from Hyperlobby so don't fly online anymore until I can find the problem.

I have sat in the pilot's seat of the Memorial Flight Lancaster.

Just thought I'd mention that.
