I remember when i upgraded my system two years ago that this was the best nvidia video card you could get. I still get really good performance out of it today but I was thinking; I'm really not that knowledgable on the Ati cards. What would be the Ati equivalent to the Ti4600? I get confused(9200, 9500, 9600, 9700) and each are light years apart from each other in terms of performance(if this is wrong, then it shows you how i am really not that knowledgable on the ati cards) Thanks.

9700 would be you answer. Although its abit faster and even more so when AA and AF are turned on.

If you are looking for the top dog, its the 9800XT

If you want a card similiar to a 4600, buy a 4600.

9800 pro is the slightly more affordable top dog.

According to http://www.tomshardware.com (check the sidebar to the right marked VGA Charts)an ATI 9600 Pro is about the level of a 4600. Granted, it's a bit faster, but it's around the performance level of a 4600.

Ive tested the 4600 vs 9600 the 4600 wins hands down. The 9600 is equal to teh 4400 if not a tad better. The posted from what I took was looking for ATI's version of the 4600 which is the 9700. Ofcoarse the 9800ProXT is at the top now. I currently own and use the ATI9800Pro which Im very happy with so far. If ATI would just fix there openGL issues I would be even more happy.

You are wrong. I own a 9700pro and I know it is a damn site faster than the 4600. Also your 9800pro is only one step up from a 9700pro, so you are saying the 9800pro is only one step up from a 4600. Get a clue dude.

Well I just upgraded from the Ti 4600 128 to a ATI 9800 pro 256 There is a major difference in Perfect mode, for appearance and FPS but if you run excellent, I see no difference other than a bit more FPS I wanted to upgrade for taking screen shots in Perfect and for making movies. And my Daughter needed a better card for her graphic arts stuff. So she is getting the 4600. One thing you have to remember when upgrading a vid card is do you have enough system to let it run like it should. I've been looking around at some benchmarks I see that my 9800 really opens up on a 3 gig cpu system. I'm running a 2.4 That may be why I'm not seeing the real abilities of the 9800 over my 4600.

You guys are all forgetting the AA/Aniso issue.

That is where the 9500 and up cards are leaps and bounds ahead of the 4600.

They are all equally fast without AA/aniso.

I would say the 9200 or 8500 without AA/Aniso is closer to compare. The 4600 would beat these though not by much.

Calm down bud. I never said the 9700 was the same thing as the 4600. I know its faster. The 9700 was ATIs answer to the 4600. Nowhere in that post did I say the the 4600 was as good as or faster then the 9700. Maybe you should read more carefully instead of flaming a guy for answering someones question correctly.

Keep in mind that the Ti4600 is named differently between Europe and USA for some reason only NVidia marketing know. What the USA knows as a Ti4800 is called a Ti4600 8X in Europe. A European Ti4600 is in fact a USA Ti4400. I think there's also a Ti4600SE in there somewhere. People many be comparing apples and oranges.
