i see that were getting a north africa desert map in the new patch i was just wondering will we see planes fitted with sand filters?
would be interesting and also will there be weather such as sandstorms? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Don't count on either....its a matter of excellent open heartedness that they managed to even build a desert map for us.

Many requests were made and Oleg did respond saying that they would see if they could make one for us seeing as we had asked so nicely.

I doubt anything special will appear on them...just the fact that we're getting one makes many very excited...and while I'm not nearly as excited I think any new maps are great especially when it opens up a new theater for everyone. So thats awesome, but I wouldn't expect sand filters or anything like that.

The constant engine management to prevent overheating will be a bear.

do they?
some planes needed filters for russia steppes or whatever. mind they cost plane speed, so imo be unfair to have some with airfilters and some without(with no ill effect)

I have it under good authority that on the desert map, if you push the throttle above 80% you will overheat your engine pretty quick. 80% seems to be the max throttle you can give. CEM is gonna be real interesting, specially for them 2 speed guys (i.e. 110% and engine off http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif).

That's right. They're in skin files but they do not appear in any of the 3D models (at least I haven't seen them)...

Is the map going to be a large one, or small like the DF maps?

Maybe this will force people to fly high altitude to keep the engines cool? Or is temperature at different altitudes not modelled in this game?

I've got the cooling report on a Spitfire LF IX tested at 25 lbs boost.

After 10 mins at cruise, followed by 5 mins at maximum power (110%) the coolant temperatures were well within tolerances, even under tropical conditions.

And that's with radiators closed.

I would be happy if they added some of foo.bars generic desert skins into the game for the dessert map, just like how they do the winter skins on winter maps

The filters would be more of a performance problem for the Hurricane and Spitfire, and not so much for the Bf109.

true
but what about ta152,p51 (maybe) and others that never had desert filters because they where not needed.
