View Full Version : External view only when dead

I'm sure somebody has suggested this before. So consider this a repeat request: how about an difficulty option to enable external views only when you are dead. This allows one to view skins and watch other people play after one is shot down or killed, but not while playing. It's quite a cheat to use externals during dogfight.

Yeah, that would be a good one. Would beat the limited pan-and-zoom you currently have from your flattened corpse. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Here here, I agree. This would be great for people who fly high realism cooperatives and VEF missions, so they could watch the action.

You do have to take into consideration though that the one shot down could watch the action, and then give advice to one of the friendly pilots still flying...

But with other software running, like Ventrilo, you really can't stop people from doing that anyway if they wanted to. I guess its what people consider cheating that makes all the difference.

If some consider it cheating while others don't (a grey area of features) then just make it an option. That shouldn't be too hard to do.

I don't think its a good idea. Pilots with voice comms would get help form their mates.

Fair point, Lazy312. Wouldn't, perhaps, be welcome in VOW/VEF etc. for that reason but could be a good option on some "intermediate" DF servers.

Consider the influence EAW had with Oleg it would have been nice to have this.

Black screen, then an 'out of a/c experience'.

Comms would have be disconnected, for sure.

So often we do trainings to get used to flying full real. The first guy who gets killed, he spends so much time waiting for the rest to finish the mission....

How is that a cheat? A cheat is something that only one person has or one team has that gives them an advantage over others. If everybody has externals how is that a cheat. I think externals helps to make up for the fact that you cant move your head and you are limited to a 2D monitor. I have never seen anyone consistently saved by externals...evasion, especially at low alts is very hard using externals alone...usually you become a lawn dart.

ok it's not a cheat. it is easier to check your six with external view. but some people will not use it. same with padlock or no-cockpit view to radar-detect your enemies. my suggestion is only so that we have an intermediate option. Right now we have to choose between

- no "radar"
- no watching other people fly

my suggestion allows:

- no "radar" during dogfight, but you can watch other people fly after you're dead

The only issue I have with watching other people fly is as some mentioned, telling your mates where the bad guy is. Not so much for a dogfight, but when you are a Stuka pilot and your best asset is a stealth approach it's damn annoying to have the enemy vectored right to you...

I agree, though, that's fun to watch the fights once you've died. In our internal squadron missions we fly externals on, but no one uses them until they are dead. Too bad you can only do that with a relatively small number of people though...

I think it would be nice to have a view from within the other pilot's cockpit to see what they see, including thier head movements accessible by a switch. It would also make a great technique training method for squads.

As for full externals, it's unfortunate but like everyone else has said, comms make the potential for misuse more than a benefit.

Yes it is an old request. I personaly requested it back in the original IL2 My sign on was toad465 back then. Oleg himself replied and said he would look into it. But I feel he dropped it when it recieved so much flak about people using coms and still communicating after they were dead.
