Having looked at the cool Blue Camoflague used by the RAF on their High Level Photo Reconnasiance Aircraft, I decided to paint the Version as worn By Spitfire PS 853 A Spitfire PR19 on the Available MK Vb Skin, I feel this model works well and is produced for IL2 Forgotton Battles Aces Pack.
This original Aircraft Lives next door to my Hangar during the Summer Display Season and is operated By Rolls Royce, I have not added the later Rolls Royce markings to the cowls. The Mk XIX was the final unarmed reconnaissance version for the R.A.F. and some 225 were supplied to squadrons shortly after the war. It was basically a Mk XIV airframe with modified Mk VC wings and had a universal camera installation. It was a P.R. 19 (PS888) that had the distinction of making the last R.A.F. operational sortie by a front-line Spitfire, in Malaysia, 1st April 1954. Enjoy

Hi there!

Great pics, mate! Love 'em.....

But I hope I have only misunderstood. I hope you're NOT saying that these are PR XIX's!

Best regards,

Hi Taylortony!

OK, mate - thanks, and my apologies for the misunderstanding. I was a little tired the other night (or at least, that's my excuse!)

By the way, according to my sources the PR XIX entered service in mid 1944, so it was truly a wartime variant and, AFAIK, the ONLY Griffon-engined PR spit to see significant WW2 service.

Do you concur?

Best regards, and keep the pics coming!

Nice skin. I'm still holding out hope for the day when we can use custom skins online. That's the only real complaint I have.

Nice skin.

I'm still holding out hope that we will eventually be able to use custom skins online. It's really a shame we can't use them now as there are some really great skinner out there whose work is going fairly unrecognized.

Lovely skin!

I'm sure it's accurate n'all, but don't the hacking great invasion stripes negate the point of the duck-egg blue camoflage, supposed to be seen from below?

Is there any chance of redoing the skin minus the invasion stripes TT? It's a lovely skin but I think it would look better without the stripes, just my honest opinion.

You have me lost here you can use them online, i fly with them and they are visible to one and all.

Not sure when the first griffon versions came online, but they would have to have been developing it during the war.

I agree with the invasion stripe comments, especially as they didn't put roundels under the wings for the purpose of making invisible.
AS i aim to please i Have modified the skin, tweaked a couple of parts and removed the Invasion Stripes for you and uploaded the modified version..... Enjoy http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I guess I should have rephrased my comment. Obviously it's not a question as to whether or not you can use them online, but more a matter of the skin DL causing lag and stutter. Many servers request skin DL to be turned off.

I've actually turned mine back on for awhile and don't see many custom skins as I'm sure many (if not most) simply don't use them much, if at all, anymore. I Thought this was a well-documented issue with no resolution as yet. If I'm wrong, please direct me to the statement that describes the resolution.

you can reduce the lag significantly by running 512 by 512 skins where the option exists

Don't you think that if we just used 512 X 512 skins (IL-2 sized) rather than the larger FB ones, then we could probably avoid server lag issues?

Very nice skins...I don't fly Spits but I can certainly appreciate good work when I see it.

Impressive!

The Grandfather of an old school friend of mine flew PS915, a PRXIX Spit, now part of the Battle of Britain memorial flight. He paid a visit to Duxford and was shown his grandad's plane by the BBMF leader. Sitting in the cockpit, it was a strange feeling to be exactly where his grandfather was during the war.

Very nice skin, tt, especially the version without the D-Day stripes. Thank you!

The debate over custom skins appears to still rage and I believe, but can't prove, they cause lag.

All of our 6BL squad skins are 1024s that have been reduced to 512s with the Black Lion crest added. The 512s appear to cause no problems at all.

Any chance of doing the same with your 'Pretty in Pink' Spitfire scheme and removing the invasion stripes TT?
