Successful multiplayer games need a good multiplayer design. Its important to me at least to have various ways to connect to a server. Here is some of my suggestions I would like to see.

(1) Client can join the 24/7 server anytime. (Makes sense especially when you have a dynamic campagne)

(2) Score is saved on the server even if it goes down for a recycle for what ever reason.

(3) Punishment for players who team kill which logs the mishap on the server for all to see.

(4) No voting system. Only server can ban any client. (in battlefield 1942 coral sea map it was always a problem people abusing the voting system where every 5 seconds you would see different people getting voted to be banned. It clutters the screen and is exploitable and annoying. Please avoid that style of voting)

(5) Scoring system may look like this---
Nick-Tonnage-type of ship-ship status(sunk or damaged)-sub damage-crew stats

Please have the server track these. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

"(1) Client can join the 24/7 server anytime."

Unless Ubi invested in a "Pay To Play" system (Star wars universe anyone!?) This option isnt a viable proposition, at least for Ubi. Unless they can make a profit, or at the least break even on server usage v subscribers.

A more viable option, would be to issue dedicated server software, for player/Private "Hosts" (IL2, Freelancer, etc!)
to have the option of running 24/7.

Human destroyer players would be nice http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

And better than four player multi is surely possible ?

Shan_Hackett, I would pay a reasonable flat fee to play on a UBI hosted server. I was thinking more that we could be the server so that means we could provide the bandwidth all the time. FTTP is coming out. In some areas its already available. Better than DSL,FTTP provides more bandwidth at the same cost. FTTP promises less lag too as there is no need to take so many hops through computers just to get to the internet. FTTP is to and from the long distance carrier like ATT,Verizon... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I have no adversion to paying a flat fee - "Pay to Play", in principle, but i will NOT pay if ppl come onto a server, and abuse it, or other players, which happens even on other such servers.

As for FTTP, i live in a back water hick town, only got cable begining of this year.
But even on a dedicated software server, using cable/DSL. u get good connectivity. Ppl run dedicated servers for just about all the main gaming genres. with lil' or no problems. The big hang ups, r usualy connected to the netcode of the software itself.

y0 folks..

ive just read in the german sh3 forum that one guy had the possibility to speak with florin and tiberius on GC2004...

and they told him that they are currently focused on the dynamic campaign... they wont work on anything else than on the campaign system...
the game you could see in the videos is the final version... nothing will be changed anymore.. they told him btw that they would have released sh3 earlier without the dynamic campaign...

so i think proposals how the game could be made much better.. or how multiplayer should be created are senseless... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

Multiplay is already coded, albiet in original form -pre Dynamic campaign.

Whether it will get updated, to incorporate the campaign system, is yet to be discussed. the whole point in this thread. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif
