You won't see me in many of the 'whining' threads, but I totally agree w/ this one. 800m+ shots are an extreme example, but 600m ones are far more common than they should be. Especially now that all guns do more damage, it's time for a re-work.

You still have to be pretty lucky to do catastrophic damage from beyond 300m.

The only time I killed something from beyond 800m, was in the original IL-2, when I scored 23mm hits on a Bf-109 from about 1200m away from him. This cut his tail off and credited my shot-up IL-2 with a ATA kill. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Your turning off the realistic gunnery arent ya. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary force:
You are about to embark upon a Great Crusade toward which we have strived these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking" - Gen. Dwight D. Eiseinhower-Supreme Allied Commander.

No no, realistic gunnery is turned on.
I made a track from that screenshot and I can make tracks like that anytime.

Try it yourself in quick mission builder.

cannon should be much harder to aim then MGs especially at distance.

I wish i had a track with the me262u2

I arced a shell about 80 degrees in the air and exploded a b17 4.15 out. You can see the shell from in cockpit across the whole map looks like a ufo.

Well it depends.. for german weapons it is realistic, for examle MG131 requires you to fly extremely close to have success with this weapons

on the other hand, russian weapons like UBS, does not obay any laws of physics, you can score kills up to 800 meters (done it myself also several times.. so if that is realistic is another question.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Well, there is always a small chance of a wandering grenade hitting the enemy plane... But, if you can reproduce this several times, then there is something wrong or, you are just getting better http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.

Placed 3rd, with team, in the official european championship Il-2/FB

Voted yes... what a h#ll do I know anything about real guns in A/C's.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif
If Oleg makes it that I can shoot anything over 400m I'll still be pleased with this game.

I can barely hit anything at over 300m, let alone 800m+ http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Oh well, more practice required then http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Let me stop you there.

I played IL-2 from when it came out, and while the gunnery was challenging (your bullets actually needed to hit the target to have an effect, unlike some WW2 cobat flight sims I recall) once you practiced, it was possible to do some impressive shots (which often relied on more than a little luck).

One of my favourate IL-2 kills was when flying a Yak-1B against a Bf-109 G-2. He was in a shallow dive, and I was at his 8'o clock position at 600m range. I lined up and fired a tiny burst (<1second) and was amazed to see the flash of the cannon round hitting home just behind the cockpit.

The fuel tank was immediately set on fire and down went one 109.

Now while the Yak-1B armament has excellent ballistics, I was pretty amazed to score the hit.

So no, I don't buy that gunnery is easier in AEP/FB compard to IL-2, certainly in terms of the ballistics.

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

Look Noobie, we already told you, we don't have the Patch!

Why so people can whine about the re-work?

I'm fixin to.

Vote no.

In original IL-2, I can easily hit at 500 to 800 range. Now, I can hit any thing unless it every close, like below 200. Maybe I am just getting worse.

Giving 1 example doesn't make a statement.

I can give a few more examples:

From what I recall deflection shooting was very rare in il2. I can make deflection shots with easy now in FB and not because my gunnery has improved that much.

Shooting with a yak9T or p39 cannon should be very hard as it was in il-2. It was at least 10 times harder then now to hit a target with the p39 cannon. When you hit a plane you where just suprised. 1 bullet firing (big cannons) every 1/2 second or so and yet's it easy to hit a plane?.

Personally I think they just made it more easy on purpose and not because it's more realistic. Or they just made an error and they are not aware from it.

Keep in mind that you have more fighting experience than over 99% of the pilots who flew in World War II. If they made a mistake they were dead. We hit escape and fly again.

You have gained more experience than any pilot could ever hope to get. You can also try things that real pilots would only do in desperation. It may have beem possible in real life to get kills at 800m, but nobody would try this unless they had no other choice. Pilots who flew 2 or 3 hours to get to a target, would not wastet their ammunition on an 800m+ shot. In addition, they don't have minimaps or the luxury of knowing how many enemy planes will intercept them.

In real life would you use all of your ammunition to take wild shots at enemy aircraft if you had to fly home for several hours completely unarmed? I think not!

Jesus, people will whine over anything.

Am not whining, and if you have nothing better to say just say nothing at all.
