Only found out the other day that FW and Bf series have manual prop pitch (had game for six months... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif). Is the engine modelling for the 109 accurate? I can smoke one in about 5 seconds, even before getting off the ground. And if they're so delicate, why are the 190's not?
Had a look around previous topics, but they seem to get nasty without answering the question.

the Fw190 has still a ConstantSpeedPropeller in manual mode , the Bf109 not.

there fore you are overreving your engine in a 109 very fast with pitch at 100%.
with a Fw190 you have just to be carefull in a high speed dive. sometimes its governor is not aible ti maintain secure rpm. but that is changing from patch to patch .

As far as I know the only 109 to have a manual prop pitch in the game was the Emil and even then only in the boxed non-patched FB

The manual prop was changed in a later patch after it was pointed out to Oleg that the manual-pitch Emils were BoB and by the time of barbarossa the emils were pretty much all auto

i found the manual emil fun .. the trick is to keep the revs around 2400 to 2800 you will find problems at takeoff as you discovered .. but also in a dive .. in fact when diving you need to close throttle as well - as just playing with pitch alone will not prevent an over-rev

This is with Shift-0, right WTE-Galway? Please tell me I'm not the only one who didn't know http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Constant speed propellor... I'm getting confused. Going home to read the CEM guide more closely.

Better like this, though, I now understand why people compare it to gears.

i am pretty sure you dont get a manual pitch only emil anymore unless you still have the unpatched boxed game .. though you can turn the auto pitch off and possibly get better performance

.. at the time i just mapped a key to increase pitch and another key to decrease pitch and (usually set the pitch on the emil to about 50-60 % for takeoff from memory possibly coarser)

basically i set the throttle to the performance i wanted (cruise 85% combat 110% for me) and then used the up/down pitch to keep the revs around 2200 to 2400 in level flight cruise and 2400 to 2800 in combat or when climbing - I never touched the throttle except in a steep dive where coarsest possible pitch still over-revved

basically set throttle to optimum and leave it alone .. use pitch up/down to keep engine speed optimal and use stick to control airspeed

for the past two years I like to set 109 manual pitch at 50-60% and open radiator at 8 pisition keep rpm not over then 2500 and for combat state I open full power , event I try to keep cooling engine before come into combat area but 109 engine seem overhead easy.

after I have seen some friend tracks file, I see him open radiator at full positon auto pitch with 100% , and for combat state 110% engine power and never open WEP. that make engine not over heat.. wow, I can take advatage on full performance of 109 after set this new option. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

ooh, once thing about pitch to apply in air break from drive is good to protect over speed.
before I drive to attack in 109, I set manual pitch at 0% then turn back to auto pitch so I drive from 6500m to 2000m at target below when my speed reach to 750 km/h I change to manual pitch 0% and power down 0%... wow my speed hold on 770-780 km/h and not lose a wing. ( that time my radiator open at full position )

for me 109E manual pitch is my classic style play ,I mean not easy... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
