I hope in the movie they explain why
a) in the future with all this advanced technology, we are still flying around P40s and B25s
and
b) how a P40 can FLY UNDERWATER

That underwater battle scene reminds me of Star Fox. Haha..

As far as the historical criticisms, I think you guys should just knock it off now. It's not supposed to be accurate at all. Think of it as more of a comic book on screen.

I was about to write a post about how this isnt like pearl harbour, which they claimed was a historic film, that it is a fantasy piece and how everyone should go easy on it... then i watched the trailer.

Now I'm willing to suspend my disbelief in quite substantial ways (hell i watched farenheit 9/11) but this is absurd.... those are planes... why are they underwater... wtf was that enemy chick wearing on her head? a goldfish bowl? and those arent good special effects, they remind me of FMV from a playstation game, they have no sense of reality to them at all, even without whats going on in them. WHAT IS JUDE LAW DOING? I like that actor... liked rather, I mean what was he smoking when that put him in the comprimising situation that was photographed and which photographs are being used to blackmail him into acting in this film? and again, planes underwater? they could have had a floatplane/aircraft carrying submarine deal a la crimson skies which at least has a modicum of plausability, hell even bring on the zeppelins but wtf is that engine supposed to be breathing?

dont get me wrong, i like comic book adaptations usually, the rocketeer, batman, hellboy was enjoyable, the x-men movies are great (and i dont complain that theres no way a mach3 jet could vector thrust to VTOL and remain stealth while having storage space on board i mean cmon)
but this is just going too far. maybe the kids will like it. but they're probably more sophisticated than that these days.

what a waste of money and talent.

In theory a prop-plane should (with a few modifications http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif) work underwater... air and water dynamics isn't all that different actually.

It is called imagination. Doing something new.

New things are great. They lead to new discoveries and ideas. They open the mind. History is predictable, imaginative thought is not.

Those who realize new ideas in the world are the most noteworthy. Don't be a drone - open your mind and ask what if . . . because just knowing why is useless.

I plan on seeing the movie. And yes, I like historical movies too. Call me open-minded. . . .

Every time I read one of the flight sim geek gasping-horror previews for a movie like this (that, newsflash, AIN'T A DOCUMENTARY or even remotely being billed as realistic)... I get this sudden vision of a mob of angry trekkies dressed up in spandex and face paint picking apart Star Treks I-XIXVII for technical details like the placement of the flux capacitor on holodeck 14 was on the wrong wall.. OMGLOL!

Seriously people.. there's a whole world out there filled with fresh oxygen, blue skies and real women even! Live it, brothers!

Gimme some sugar . . .

LOL! Well there is campy.. there there is fiction.. I dont know.. if it was a generic crimsim tide looking WWII airplane.. It wouldnt bother me so much.. But seeing a P40 portraid like that.. Just pains me too much.. I wouldnt be able to let go and just enjoy the movie.. Same thing happend with that PEARL HARBOR movie a few years back.. Sad thing there is it didnt do a good job of explaing this is a movie.. And tried to come off as realistic.. So in that sense this film will probally not have that problem..

Take MIDWAY for example.. A pretty good atempt at a documentry style.. yet still entertaining.. The charter played by charlston heston didnt actually exist.. They injected him into the movie to make it flow.. Kind of a nariator that is actully seen.

Yeah - Classic Movie (Army of Darkness that is!). Midway ain't bad either! Too bad the last time I saw poor Ash was in The Daredevil playing an usher.

Oh yeah - wasn't there a game Army of Darkness? I wonder what that was all about. Also, I think he did some voice overs for a space combat game about 5 years ago. Brisco County Jr. was awesome. A friend of mine was in a few episodes of that with him (he is not married to Christina Applegate).

Ah - youth today. Why do you think they need to put warnings on Superman Halloween costumes? Crazy stuff.

Are you people really not at all familiar with the "Future of Tomorrow" conceptual genre of the 50's? I mean.. really?

This is like complaining that Kill Bill V.1 was completely unrealistic sword fights because of the insane blood squirting that was over the top.. it's an omage to an entire genre of film-making.

But, I suppose in a modern era where a large chunk of high school seniors can't point to our nation's capital, we similarly can't expect people to understand or accept the notion of a conceptual artistic work, either.

wow, some of you need to put a little more thought into how to get a P-40 to survive underwater. after all, water moving slowly is similar to air moving fast, so all you need to do is seal the cockpit, seal all holes leading to the engine, rig up a nitrousoxide (sp) system, and then rig a way to get rid of the exaust, see, not all that hard.

</imagination>

Yeah, REAL simple. In fact, I'll go rig one up right now.

Really, the issue isn't whether or not rigging submersible warbirds is possible. The issue is the ABSURDITY of such an idea. It may be cool to see as a functioning novelty on a Discovery Channel special, but to be seen as an employed concept for underwater military purposes in a Hollywood movie is a silly notion.

The idea may appeal to some grammar school kids too ignorant to know better (...an, an, an there was an OLD PLANE that, that FLEW UNDERWATER! It was COOL!). However, at least to me anyway, that whole scheme is sacrilegious, even if it's only in a movie.

Movie based on a comic book...if its good then I can suspend the rest of my disbelief. The visuals are certainly fantastic...

I kinda wish they hadn't done it with a P-40. If they had made up the plane then we'd just say...ok, thats what it can do, retro technology is cool....but they went and used a Warhawk. For whatever reason. In any case...if it works I'll take it...but if it doesn't then its certainly not going to be good for any realism.

I kind of enjoy movies and books that mix 1940 styles with comic book sci-phi, ...Highlander 3 comes to mind, that nuclear powered DC-2 was cool.

The Rocketeer was good too. Remeber that Disney cartoon with ballo the baer and his yellow generic anpbibious plane...loved it.

Yeah Simjock I remember that Disney one with Baloo. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The Rocketeer was good fun too

I will see this movie. Given that it's based on a comic book, anything goes.

Look at Superman, TASM, Batman, Hellboy etc...c,mon people.
Bitten by a radioactive spider!!??
A little boy from another planet!!??
If you can buy these, then P-40s underwater should be no problem.

Which company after all, manufactured all of Batman's gadgets (including the Batplane,) and never asked questions??? And you can't tell me Alfred is servicing the Batmobile himself, and acting as the armorer and fueler for the Batplane. And surely the insurance company would have records of who Batman really was, given that he would be breaking the law everytime he took his car out, (or the plane or boat for that matter)without, if not insurance, at least registration.

All they gotta say to explain why they can fly underwater is that they parked a whole flight of P-40s near some toxic waste or they added some Krytonite type stuff to the fuel. Or maybe there is some alien technology involved or perhaps technology from the future. It's not much of a stretch given what the film is supposed to be.

BTW Was that a B-24 I saw in one shot there (not underwater)??

English lesson 101:
The word is 'Lose' not 'Loose'. e.g.
That IL2 is gonna lose the fight against that 109.
That IL2's wing looks loose, its gonna fall off.
If i dive too vertically i will lose my wing. k thx.
