Will back seat gunners have minimal flight controls that they can use in the event the pilot is rendered incapacitated?

The Dauntless had a stick that was removeable and kept in a side area that the gunner could install and a set of rudder peddles. He only had a few gauges, probably compass, Alt, and speed indicator.

Hey Latico, that's a great idea and shouldn't be too tough to implement. You're right, the back-seater in the SBD did in fact have a removable stick and a little baby panel that carried something three instruments. Talk about irony, I was just looking at one of those panels about three days ago!!!! And just to throw fire on the whole thing, I just watched "Midway" last night. All the best, LongHorn

According to Oleg a while back there will be no implementation of dual controls in FB or PF due to limitation of the code and time.

Correctomundo. While of course the controls will be visually modeled in the SBD rear gunners position, it's just extremely complicated to actually make them work because of how AI and multi-crews are currently coded.

It's just not worth the development time (which we don't have anyway). I mean of course it'd be nice to have but I'm sure any of us could easily come up with 10 more features missing from the game which we'd much rather have than back seat driving.

When I switch positions on the HE-111 I can sometimes re-tain flight control!

Ok, Luthier. Thought I'd ask about it anyway.

Oh I assumed everyone knew about that already. There is a switch for that already which works in any multi-seat aircraft. I forget what the key is called in the settings, something about the autopilot I think, but you can bind it and toggle automatic autopilot switching - i.e you'll remain in control of a previous position when switching to the old one.

So you can already fly planes from a gunner position by basically being both the gunner and the pilot.

I assumed this thread was asking for something else though, i.e. to be able to fly specifically from the gunner position. With the current system, if you put that toggle on and the pilot gets killed you can no longer control the aircraft - I thought the thread was asking for this. However if you simply want to be able to fly the aircraft while shooting the RG for better aiming, that functionality's been in there for years http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Luthier, is this limitation of the code the reason we can´t have two diferent humnas in a bomber where one is the pilot and the other one is the bombardeer?

That's because of the AI. Both seats are managed by the same AI/human slot.

If they weren't, and you had two different slots, then in case of one of those managed by AI the player's bomber would simply be incapable of bombing. As soon as you switched to the bombardier's position the AI would break your perfect bombing run and try to get back to the preset waypoints. And the other way around, if you flew as a pilot and let AI be the bombardier, if you strayed off course the AI would never drop the bombs if you weren't on the exact pre-set waypoint.

And no, we can't write different multicrew logic for single and multi-player games.

I thought "back seat driver" was already implemented. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

It's a Norw. expression at least, like "armchair quarterback",
and the tail gunners already whine "What the hell are you doing" when you're casually buzzing bridges etc.

Luthier,

The bases of my question may be a mute one as I'm not very familiar with FB yet.

What I was thinking of was if you are in the back seat when the pilot gets killed can you take control of the plane from the gunners position. Provided of course that the controls aren't shot to hell too. Or is bailing the only option.
