The first one is me in P-47 with rockets attacking and airfeild protected by flak.

I had some fun, was pretty beat up (i got hit by the BIG flak a few times, and was having trouble staying level due to the gaping holes in wing) and fly to my airbase.

but when I got there, my gear didn't come down. I paused, and mapped the manual gear keys to shift and alt G, and I manually lowered them with some real rapid button mashing (i was almost on the strip when I paused).

I thought that it was awesome that your hydraulics can get desdtroyed and you can still frantically spin the manual crank or whatever was used. Kudos to Oleg.

Second was me in a Pony, fighting a squadron of four ace Me-110's (not much of a match, I know, but I like turkey shoots from time to time).

Anywho, after downing one 110, I made a pass on the next. He landed a few rear-turret rounds on me and my engine stopped. I cursed, pulled up high, fell back and nabbed him. Then I realized that I hadn't gotten an "engine inoperable" message, even though I saw the prop sitting still at the apex of my high maneuver. So I said to myself "what the hell, worth a shot" and I hit the ignition button again. Much to my surprise, my engine started turning over. It didn't catch unfortunatly, So i tried it again, this time in a dive. The added spin from the air allowed it to start . . but as soon as I pulled up it died. Once more, this time I stayed in a dive with 110% throttle, and lo and behold it started up, revved up to full speed, and remained operational long enough for me to climb, dive those last to 110's into oblivion, and land at an airbase.

I dunno if this is historical, but It sure added some realism, with me trying everything to nurse my motor back to life, and finally succeeding.

This seems to be new since the RC's for 1.2. Getting a shot on the engine that stops the prop, but allows it to be restarted eventually now happens a fair bit. It's a nice touch.

The I-16s engine now seems to be able to be restarted in flight under similar circumstances after the carb floods.

Speaking of landing gear, check this out....I was flying a Lagg 3,and I took out two German bombers without getting a scratch on my plane. The mission was complete.I then saw a flight of Stukas.I made a pass at one and shot him up pretty good.I banked left, and pulled up.The tail gunner got me with a few rounds on the underside of my plane. The only damage I could see was a few bullet holes. No big deal.
I headed home and was coming in for landing.I lowered my landing gear when I heard this strange noise.I thought "what the hell was that?".I paused the game and took a look at my plane. The right landing strut and wheel had fallen off.In fact, I could see the strut and wheel falling to the ground.I think I was only a couple of hundred feet off the ground when this happened.
I was actually laughing at what had happened.I thought that was pretty cool.I retracted the remaing landing gear and brought her down on her belly. The prop was all bent up,but I walked awayto fight another day.

Yeah, I had that same thing happen the other day. I was getting ready to land with minor damage(i thought) Gear would not go down. So, just for the heck of it I starting pushing my manual lower gear button and the green lights came on!

Very nice touch by dev team. I have been flying this game since demo and find new things all the time.

TY Oleg!

You was going to fast when u opend gear....it been like that sins IL2....if u go above 350km/h or so your gear get damaged if u open them./i/smilies/16x16_robot-wink.gif ..nothing new about that/i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

You know it's a good sim when you like getting damaged.
Or you have to ditch!

Actually,I was under 200kph when the landing gear fell off.
It's not that I enjoy getting damaged,I'm just Amazed/Impressed/Entertained about the level of detail and realism.

Hace you ever been blown up by flak?It happened to me once.
I was flying along in formation---I was pretty proud of myself cuz I've been pracicing this for awhile--when all of a sudden,Boom! My plane was hit by a burst and disintegrated.

My flight leader was also heavily damaged.I saved the footage to show my friends the dangers of Flak.

way to go Oleg!

the other good detail in this game is, when u'r on fire u can dive to put it out/i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif it helps most of the times(if u not blow up be4) lol

The problem with that is that the fire re-starts when you slow down.

I got hit in the engine one time and the rpms went off the dial. ( I don't remember which fighter I was in...one of the La5s I think). It seemed to be the only problem the engine had. I managed to reel in my rpms by changing prop pitch and actually managed to get back to base, kill the engine and glide in.(I couldn't slow down without killing the engine). I thought that was pretty cool.

It's only funny til someone loses an eye....then it's hilarious

This tends to happen quite a lot in the Hurricane and P-40 - good to know other aircraft are affected too. The noise the prop makes when it goes out of sync is quite scary to hear in the middle of combat :>

The prop pitch damage is really cool too. The first time it happened I thought the engine was going to explode! Try shooting the P-47's external tank for another suprise.

Not sure if this one is new but in the Hurricane I was split in two by AAA fire and even a BF-109's Cannons on a couple occasions. The tail section came off right behind my seat.

I never seen this before the 1.21 patch.

Anyone else see this before the patch?

See you in the fence.....

I cant remember what plane i was flying but it had a 6 gun setup.I took some damage to my right wing and when I went external I noticed that the sheetmetal was riped off right where the guns wer placed. The damage was to only one gun and noticed that the plane veered slightly to this side as I fired since it had one less gun.The shells coming out the bottom of the wing was only from the two working guns.I thought that was a kool detail.

... had a long trip back to base yesterday after a "turkey shoot" where the P-40's engine started smoking. Paid close attention to the gauges and noticed the oil temperature coming back to normal after reducing throttle and prop rpm but the oil pressure was gradually slipping down from 145 to 70. After a smokey taxi to the hangers, the manifold pressure wouldn't even come up to 20 at full throttle and black smoke billowed out of the engine cowling.

Great details IMO /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Today i read practically the same post on a russian phorum. The guy was able to restart the engine. Then was a historical accuracy question. Then someone brought Pokryshkin's recallection about an episode where he was able to restart the engine after it seemingly died.
A big piece of flak exloded in front of his plane, the engine ceased immediately. After a dive the engine started. Pokryshkin's explanation was that the engine choked on the oxygenless gases from the explosion.
Not exactly your story but still...
