Hello, AirForceOne_, welcome to the forums.

If you are still on the fence with Forgoten Battles, you might want to download the demo for the original Il-2 Sturmovik. As demos go, this one gives you quite a taste of flying in Il-2, but bear in mind that the demo is not current, and the sim has come a long way since it was released.

You should also know that the learning curve in this sim can be fairly steep--don't expect to rack up kills instantly. It takes lots of practice for a new player to even kill bombers and ground targets, much less well-flown fighters. The benefit is satisfaction that is unparalleled by other games, IMHO. Il-2 rewards those who take the time to become skillful at it, especially those who choose to master a particular plane. You can find online Quake-like battles if you want them, but that isn't where the sim really shines.

You sound like you are most interested in online play, but I can't tell you much about that, as I am an offline player. I can tell you that the Il-2 sims are quite possibly the most realistic flying experience you can get on a PC and still be able to shoot things. While there is a lot of adjustment for realism and difficulty, Forgotten Battles doesn't feel as "gamey" as most other WWII flight sims.

What are you looking for in screenshots?

Welcome, and the guys here are great. Get the demo (unless on 56k) and give it a go. I jumped into the game having never played a flight sim and haven't regreted it at all.

CH makes some good stuff. Thrustmaster also makes some decent stuff. I've never used a Saitek product, so I can't say anything about those sticks, but I hear that they're pretty decent.

I used a $20 Saitek Cyborg stick that was bought at a local Wal-Mart. I must say that for the money, it was all that and more.

BTW, welcome to the community. I don't think you will find a community as dedicated to a paricular game as this one.

As said above, the learning curve is pretty steep so don't get discouraged and post a "This Sucks" thread because you will never convince anyone here of that. And we have had several new gamers post a thread like that after they weren't very sucessful their first or second, or tenth time out. But I tell ya, if you find a plane that you like, stick with that one and learn it. You will find success allot quicker that way.

I hope you like it enough to hang with us here. Try that cheap stick out. You won't be disappointed. S!
