Greetings all.
Per popular request i`m going to describe easy way of settings up dedicated server.

1) Install Server in any directory ex: C:\Server
Server files are here: http://www.3dgamers.com/games/il2sturmovik2/

This one: http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/il2sturmovik2/server204.exe.html Full 204 server install.

Note: For Pacific Fighters merged installation you will need a complete 2.04 version of Dedicated, then you can patch it to whatever version of Pacific Fighters Merged you`v been given.

For combined AEP+PF dedicated server:

Download and install patches -

303m over 204:

http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/pacificfighters/server303m_over204.exe.html

Then upgrade it to current version 304m with this patch:

http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/pacificfighters/pf_dedicated_server_v304m.exe.html

Make correction and adjustments in the confs and confc files.

This version is compatible ONLY with 304m Clients!!!

For PF stand alone dedicated server:
Download and install first server v303 -
http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/pacificfighters/server303.exe.

Then download and install patch 304 -

http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/pacificfighters/pf_dedicated_server_v304.exe.html

This version is compatible ONLY with 304 Clients!!!

2) Find il2server.exe and rename it to il2fb (For future references) After that copy Users folder from AEP installation in Server directory - You will need it for Hyperlobby.

For version 302b/302bm and up Find new exe and rename it to il2fb

3) Copy all your missions that you are planning to host in missions\net\dogfight\1,2,3 or 4 Or Create a new folder - your choice.

4) Right click server.cmd in dedicated server directory and select edit.
It will open as a text Doc. In this line:

mission LOAD net/dogfight/ 1/*insert your map here*

Example: mission LOAD net/dogfight/ dedicated/my_map1.mis

Save server.cmd

Later on i will explain how to include icons settings and all other cool stuff right into initial startup, not home right now, but will add to it. Going by memory hehe.

5) Open up confs.ini file

In the conf.ini file under the net section

speed=8000 (Depending on how many players - from 8k to 10k.
routeChannels=0
serverChannels=15 - How many users you hosting for.
localPort=21000
remotePort=21000
SkinDownload=0 - you want this to be 0, trust me.
serverName=MyServer
serverDescription=
remoteHost=
localHost=
socksHost=
checkServerTimeSpeed=1 - server check against clinet.
checkClientTimeSpeed=1 - client check against server.
checkTimeSpeedDifferense=0.05 Difference in speed between server and client
checkTimeSpeedInterval=5 interval of client checks.

Following setting maybe a matter of personal preferences - meaning how much you can tolerate.
This is mine, works out great.

[MaxLag]
farMaxLagTime=2.0
nearMaxLagTime=1.0
cheaterWarningDelay=2
cheaterWarningNum=2

6) Also, in the main section you can add line difficulty=*number* About this number - here`s the trick:
Open up regular AEP and go to QMB. Setup difficulty as you would want on your server. hit Fly. Mission loads - exit. Go to Users\Doe directory in AEP and open up settings.ini file. Scroll down looking for [difficulty]. You will see two values net and single. Take the number under the single= and put it into server confs.ini file under main section...so it will look like this:

difficulty=*number that you generated*
Save confs.ini and you all done.
***********************************************

Start server by itself and make sure that map loads normally and everything is ok - no errors. Go to your gaming machine and start AEP. Go to Multiplayed and choose to join a server. Type IP address of your dedicated server and click join. Pick around see if you can join all bases ...etc etc.

When that is done, proceed to Hyperlobby. When Hyperlobby starts and connects....disconnect from it, but don`t close it.

Hold down CTRL and SHIFT keys and click connect. Game path selection window will pop up. Enter path to your il2fb.exe : C:\Server\il2fb.exe and click Save.

Join HL again and you good to go. Keep in mind that difficulty settings and ammount of players are not controlled from Hyperlobby, you will have to define all that in the confs.ini file as i described above.

For those who behind hardware firewalls, port21000 has to be authorized for TCP and UPD, otherwise nobody will join. Sometimes you might have to forward traffic to particular IP, but that depence on the router type and network setup. Strictly individual matter http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Attention to those Who is running Stand alone Pacific Fighter dedicated: Above instructions are applicable for both, Merged and Stand alone, with exception of installation part.
Stand alone Pacific Fighters server, current version 302b Does NOT require preinstalled dedicated 204. It`s a full blown server and ready to go. All you have to do is install dedicated 302b and then install 302b new exe and you are all set.

Hope this helps in any way. This is not even close to complete setup, but at least this will get you start it and you can host. To all hosts, please feel free to add to this thread, your input is greatly appriciated.

Cheers!

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

So ehm, which server do I already have to install before patching it to 2.01, Dedicated server for 1.22 I suppose? But I cant find a working link for that. I'm looking into hosting a dedicated server for the first time.

so it's best to run the DS on a seperate computer?

would it defeat the purpose of running a dedicated server if i play in it from the same machine?

Yes Gutted, If you run server on the same machine as AEP it will be a disaster http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. AEP will be fighting it for CPU resources and that`s where it`s going to be baaad

^ how did you determine that?

i've got these parts leftover from my last upgrade.

1ghz AMD Athlon & Asus A7V mobo
512mb PC-133 SDRAM
sounblaster live
geforce4mx

will probably get a case for it, a hardrive, cheap CDROM, and upgrade the RAM to 1gig.

I use to HOST on PIII 800 with 512 of SD RAM. Was good for 16+HOST, nice and smooth - anything above was kind of pushing it.

And also i tried AMD 1.2 - i beleve it was Tbird, it was ok, but worse then PIII, 14+host was optimal..

But alot of things will depend on your connection....

ok so this is the wierd thing. Even when i have my server in the dmz zone it still times out when connecting. Should i be adding autodetectip=0 into the confs.ini to fix the problem. This is the only thing not working. FBDaemon works a treat, it's just the server keeps picking up the local ip not my external ip

Ok, thanks for the help Ivan, I got it working as far as I can see. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif But how does HL display the difficulty settings? It never saves my settings after I change them and when I start the game I do this with HL displaying incorrect difficulty settings as its not remembering the settings I tried to save before starting. In game the settings are fine though, but this is kind of misleading the poeple in HL. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Save settings first so you can check mark difficulty settings again and hit start game.
HL will display them correctly if you launch that way. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Open up regular AEP and go to QMB. Setup difficulty as you would want on your server. hit Fly. Mission loads - exit. Go to Users\Doe directory in AEP and open up settings.ini file. Scroll down looking for [difficulty]. You will see two values net and single. Take the number under the net= and put it into server confs.ini file under main section...so it will look like this:

difficulty=*number that you generated*
Save confs.ini and you all done.

Can others connect to your server? If they can, then you just use your internal IP to connect, no need to specify port. If nobody can connect to you, then you either do IP forwarding for 21000 from EXTERNAL TO INTERNAL IP both protocols (UPD and TCP) or setup your dedciated machine as DMZ and point to internal IP there. All depence on your router mate.

quote:
Originally posted by crazyivan1970:
Greetings all.
Per popular request i`m going to describe easy way of settings up dedicated server.

1) Install Server in any directory ex: C:\Server and patch it to current version 2.01
Server files are here: http://www.3dgamers.com/games/il2sturmovik2/

2) Find il2server.exe and rename it to il2fb (For future references) After that copy Users folder from AEP installation in Server directory - You will need it for Hyperlobby.

3) Copy all your missions that you are planning to host in missions\net\dogfight\1,2,3 or 4 Or Create a new folder - your choice.

4) Right click server.cmd in dedicated server directory and select edit.
It will open as a text Doc. In this line:

mission LOAD net/dogfight/ 1/*insert your map here*

Example: mission LOAD net/dogfight/ dedicated/my_map1.mis

Save server.cmd

Later on i will explain how to include icons settings and all other cool stuff right into initial startup, not home right now, but will add to it. Going by memory hehe.

5) Open up confs.ini file

In the conf.ini file under the net section

speed=8000 (Depending on how many players - from 8k to 10k.
routeChannels=0
serverChannels=15 - How many users you hosting for.
localPort=21000
remotePort=21000
SkinDownload=0 - you want this to be 0, trust me.
serverName=MyServer
serverDescription=
remoteHost=
localHost=
socksHost=
checkServerTimeSpeed=1 - server check against clinet.
checkClientTimeSpeed=1 - client check against server.
checkTimeSpeedDifferense=0.05 Difference in speed between server and client
checkTimeSpeedInterval=5 interval of client checks.

Following setting maybe a matter of personal preferences - meaning how much you can tolerate.
This is mine, works out great.

[MaxLag]
farMaxLagTime=2.0
nearMaxLagTime=1.0
cheaterWarningDelay=2
cheaterWarningNum=2

Take the number under the net= and put it into server confs.ini file under main section...so it will look like this:

difficulty=*number that you generated*

Strictly individual matter http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hope this helps in any way. This is not even close to complete setup, but at least this will get you start it and you can host. To all hosts, please feel free to add to this thread, your input is greatly appriciated.

Cheers!

Those are not errors mate.

But it didn`t find your command file for settings http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Did you save it as .cmd? Did you save it in the dedicated server directory?

Also, stuff like difficulty and icons settings you can include in initial startup, meaning in server.cmd, if you host same settings all the time

Everytime I launch the server it puts the server in the IL2 Forgotten Battles Dogfight room and not the IL2 Forgotten Battles Aces Dogfight room. When I launch the GSlauncher I highlight IL2 Forgotten Battles Aces Dogfight Room so I have no idea why it keeps placing the server in the wrong room. Any help would be great. I read the Easy Setup Guide over and over also.

So how do I host a server in ubi.com game lobby? Is there a different program to use? I am new to hosting a server, but I figure I have an extra computer hooked up to a cable modem that is more than capable so why not. Thanks for any help.

this is not a good enough answer. Give us a date when it's going to be fixed or who we can contact to get a fix. Since you don't host games on UBI why are you speaking for them? You host on hyperLobby and didn't know of the problem. You said you would keep us posted and we are still waiting.

When you contact UBI they give you the run-around.

Can we ever get a straight answer about these fixes?

Hello Ivan,

I need help on to issues:

1. How to set or write in maxping and exactly where it goes(a little more detail tried previous post did not work command not recognized).
2. Can we as a server shut of the hud log so it does not display.

command for maxping is:

maxping <number>

where number is the max of you allow in ms. You can add this to as a last line in server.cmd

As far as hud log goes, you mean console output, i am not sure. You can disable server loggin onto harddrive, which helps a bit with reducing I/O, but i don`t believe you can turn off console writes. Would be really nice if dedicated could be installed as a service.

Hi !!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Well done ! very good thread about fb server and very usefull ...especially for me ! I've done all what you say and it seems that the mission run on hl . But ( sorry,there is a "but"), something strange happen : sometimes it's possible to connect from hl for pilots and sometimes not ! Port 21000 is open (tcp/udp) in the router => server pc ( so, i can see my game on hl)but port 21000 is also open from router to 2nd pc (where i play generally). I think there is a prob when i run hl on 2nd pc . if i join a game (not mine) on hl, no prob, but after that, it's not possible to join my server for everybody !!! Do you think it's because i'm using same port (21000 hl)with 2 different hl running on different computers ? may be, there is a mistake, a "mix" between both hl and it put some probs on my fb or hl server. What can i do to solve this prob, i'm a bit...lost. i've seen that it's necessary to copy fb user folder in fb server. I've done that but what for ? i've a different login on hl server so, what is the utility to do that ? and last, to put my server on hl, i've just to click on a dog room and save and start the game. it run the server (i see dos window and mission loading and playing) i hope i'm doing right !
Many thanks for your help ! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

k, I need help.

Got everything installed ok and patched. Followed Ivans instructions to the T, but I can't get my mission to load. Can't get any of the default missions to load either.

I get an error messege which says "No MAP in Mission file" then a few lines of memory totals.

Please help. I think I'm really close, but can't figure out why the missions wont load.

Well I got the map to load and the server is up and running, but when I join the server from my other gameing machine (hooked up on same router) I get all the way past the mission loaded screen but it hangs there and never goes into the base select screen. On the ping bar at the top right corner I get 1 green bar and an intermidant yellow bar like its not letting me go all the way in. Like a time out, but it never says timed out.
I have a linksys router.

Got the mission to load, but now having a problem connecting to the server. I get as far as the mission being loaded and then it hangs like its timed out, but it never gives a timed out messege. I get a blinking yellow bar at the top right like its a connection issue.
Someone ealier in this thread said they fixed thier problem by specifying thier local IP address in the confs file, but he did not explain where to put the IP or the exact wording to use.
I am on a Linksys router and my gaming PC is run through the DMZ. The dedicated server PC is hooked up to the same router and not DMZ.
Firewall on router has been disabled for all PCs connected to it.
I can see the Dedicated server in the list when I join with my game PC and it transfers and loads the mission fine, just wont go beyond that.

http://www.x-plane.org/users/531seawolf/f4ucorsr.jpg

JG54_Arnie

Hm, I'm not known with the possible problems due to routers, but could it be that the last statement for the dedicated server that starts the mission: "mission BEGIN" is left out?
If this is forgotten the mission loads ok but you never get into the base selection and so on.

Although the connection should be into green I think only red shows a connection thats actually dead.

If its not this I cannot help you any further though, someone else should be able to solve router related problems.

Good luck. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Hi, I thank you for explaining the DS stuff, I know its very late in the day to be asking what I am about to ask but hope you dont mind going that extra mile. Basically, I am created my DS server AEP Ver 2.04. I have the following 2 points.
a. After installed the DS server files would I can no longer play AEP game on the computer. I may not always want to run the server therefore surely I should be able to play the game, normally?

b. As I said, DS server is installed and I have tested it via the LAN and it works. However I am very confused about how I load it into H/L. the explanation says join H/L then disconnect and then click ctl and shift etc. then join H/l again. Do I join H/L using "host" computer, Do i need the server "running" before I join H/L. Please advise me if you can

Mr. CrazyIvan, I have an extra cpu with a client 3.02bm that I'm considering convernting to a dedicated server. Is it as simple as 1-2-3 in downloading the latest server patch and reading your posted instructions? I three separate cpus on my local network (router) and can only connect locally not from HL. Why?

make sure the host machine is assigned to the first IP on the router and open UDP port 21000 for IL2 and TCP 6891 for HL

Probably forgot to open ports on your router: 21000 for the game, both protocols and 20000 for console if you planning to use it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Also, with some routers you might have to use internal IP, i couldn`t get around that one.

Thanks for being so quick. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif No, the ports 21000 udp/tcp are open and forwarded to the server pc. I haven't opened 20000 because I don't think there is need as the server sits right next to me. The server shows on the game 'local servers' list, complete with all the right information. I've tried joining via IP as well. No joy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Can anyone do a quick guide on how to setup remote administration of dedicated servers on Hyperlobby?
A friend has a dedicated server running, and I want to be an admin. TY

I see in the confs.ini there is the line
[console]
IPS=

do I make IPS=myip
and then that gives me control of the server through the console in game?

I've searched and searched but nowhere can I find a definative list of commands or a 'how to' for FB dedi. It seens a bit daft to have to keep worrying CrazyIvan for every little thing. Like how do you change a map? Where do the maps live? I've tried 'mission LOAD\etc. But get 'No MAP found. So I'm stuck with 'Islands' Sheesh!

crazyivan1970
12-09-2004, 06:23 AM
@Doorman: It is very easy to make mate... Take server.cmd right click and select edit.
Notepad will open. Add first line: MISSION END
Change map name in server.cmd to whatever map you want... lets say my_map1 you can add icons settings to it, maxping command...etc. Then you SAVE it AS my_map1.cmd Do it with all maps that you have... and to start new mission, all you have to do is type at the console, f.e.: >f my_map1.cmd it will stop previous mission and load your new map. All my maps have their own "map name" command file.

Also, if you type : help at the console, it will give you list of available commands.

example:

****

mission END
mission LOAD net/dogfight/ 1/DF1944.mis BEGIN
f gc.cmd

mp_dotrange FRIEND COLOR 0.5 TYPE 0.005 NAME 0.005 ID 3.5 RANGE 0.005
mp_dotrange FOE COLOR 0.005 TYPE 0.005 NAME 0.005 ID 0.005 RANGE 0.005

I now have a .cmd file called my_map1 and it contains this:

mission END
mission LOAD Net/dogfight/_1/01 1Net16armySummer1200.mis BEGIN
f gc.cmd
mp_dotrange FRIEND COLOR 0.5 TYPE 0.005 NAME 0.005 ID 3.5 RANGE 0.005
mp_dotrange FOE COLOR 0.005 TYPE 0.005 NAME 0.005 ID 0.005 RANGE 0.005

If it cant find the map its something with your path to the mission file. Either fix the folder name or the path in your CMD file.

I have just been creating some of those .cmd files specific to missions, which you were talking about before.

A question though, is it possible to set map changes on a timer in the .cmd file? So when no admins are around, the map will change automaticaly after an hour.

crazyivan1970
12-09-2004, 11:13 AM
Probably is, Hunter82 said that you can. I never tried it. You can probably set timer within cmd file... set it for whatever hours you want (in seconds) and after that timer repeat the whole thing with mission end, mission load...etc. Then add another timer and another mission...and so on. As i said, i haven`t tried it, because when i hosted dedicated i was changing maps on 12 or 24 hours bases. I don`t particulary like when map changes every 1-2 hours. It`s rather irritating to my taste. I think 12 hour rotation is the best approach. But that just me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

There is a way, which is to work with scripts. The script can be located in a folder called scripts (makes sense http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) within the IL2 main folder. There is an example of such a script below this writing which should make clear what the contents of a script are.
When you load the server you can order the game to load the first script and at the end of the script you give the command to load another script which has its own commands again. This is because these scripts run with a time limit at which you can start commands, called timeout in here. its in miliseconds, so you can have a max of 9999999 = 9999 seconds = 166 minutes of playing time = 2 hours and 46 minutes.

This is if you want to use variety ofcourse, totally depends on what you want. but this is a way to automatically rotate missions without imput from outside. You can give any command as you like in here, so you could even autokick a user at a set time or whatever.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
The first script is started by typing: "file scripts/20.il2script" (where 20.il2script is the filename of the script I run first). You can also put this command in server.cmd which is located in the main IL2 folder and can be edited by notepad. You see that this command is also run at the end of every script in order to keep it going and load a new script again.
Everytime a script loads the scripts also sets the timer it follows back to 0.

I didnt make this up myself, got it from this site:
http://scripts.sturmovik.de/html/index_english.html So no credits for me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

@Doorman1

For example:

mp_dotrange FRIEND DOT 15 COLOR 3.5 TYPE 0.005 NAME 0.5 ID 3.5 RANGE 1.0

FRIEND - Friendly icon

DOT - Distance when dot of friendly plane will be visible (15km)
COLOR - Distance when icon will be colored (3.5km in this case)
TYPE - Distance when aircraft type will show (5 meters in this case)
NAME - Distance when players name will be shown (500m in this case)
ID - Users ID distance (3.5km)
RANGE - range to the plane (meters) will be visible (1km in this case)

If you go to FMB and select Home base, under color selection you will see all colors available... but to display that particular color, your airbase has to be the same one... for example... if you select color for airbase as Orange... Friendly icons will be orange.

Before decimal point kilometers...after meters http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

For some routers IP forwarding does not work correctly, not sure why. When i use to host dedicated i encountered same problem and only way i could get around it is to enable DMZ and forward all traffic to the server, basically opened all ports in and out, leaving server only behind software firewall.

Try to DMZ it, see if that works.

Any help appreciated here, apologies for the long post but I hope to provide the necessary data:

All I wanted to do was run a small dogfight with victory conditions http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

So, is there an esy way to do this - e.g. you only have 10 pilots each, or you must destroy/defend ground target.

Looks like the only way to go is a dedicated server with FBDaemon.

Can I ask a few questions:

1. Can the server and game run on the same machine (couldn't get this to work myself). I am not concerned with great performance as my intention is only for 6-8 players in small scripted dogfights challenges amoungst friends.

2. If not, can I run the server on my second PC which is connected via a crossover cable to my main PC which has the ADSL modem connection and runs Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on XP i.e. no router!

I read HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q308127) that you can set up port forwarding in ICS, but I could not get it to work.

This is what I tried:
Start up HL on second PC
Host a game as EAF602_Joe90_DS
Dedicated Server starts up
Connect to server from main PC as direct connect and name EAF602_Joe90
Ask a volunteer to connect from HL
They got 'Connection Timout' when firewall is on
They got 'Connection Disabled' when firewall is off

Here are my settings:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rboyd/images/ICSportforwarding.jpg

Its OK, I figerd my mistake. It should be UDP not TCP on the port forwarding.

All working on HL now, which I am surprised because I was sure I would need a router http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

For newcomers:

This file: \lib\fonts\LucidaSansRegular.ttf that is corrupted in dedicated server 204 and could be replaced with identical from the game installation. Simply copy it from IL2 Forgotten battles installation and drop it in corresponding folder in your dedicated server install.

Cheers!

I know this is a noob question, but which dedicated server file (for AEP)do I install first if starting from scratch...the 1.1 and patch it all the way up..or do I do I start with the ded srv 2.0 and patch it up...

I have a really hot box (twin xeon 3.0 with 2 gig ram) on an OC12 backbone...but all of this is new to me....so some help appreciated. I want to run AEP 2.04 version...

gasp_ger

You have to start with 1.1 and then patch it to 2.04. Nice box for hosting a server http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

But i´ve got a problem too, perhaps anyone can help me with this...

Everytime a client tries to connect to my server, the server gives the following error:

socket channel NOT created (): 100.0.0.1:50156 (the port differs)

This IP is the Internal Gateway-IP of the server, i don´t know what this should mean...can´t he establish the connection through my firewall? I forwarded everything http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I´ll add my config files, perhaps someone can help with this prob...

Hi Troll2K,

and thanks for your reply!
I deleted the ";", but the problem is still there...following a threat in the Hyperlobby Forums from OMK_Knight, i added this line in my server.cmd:
socket udp CREATE LOCALHOST 100.0.0.10 LOCALPORT 21000 CHANNELS 15 SPEED 1500

But the Problem stays http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Can i try anything else? It would be so great to host a server for my clan. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Somebody was asking about password protection

I found something in my old notes (from dedicated server 1.0)

quote:

In the console type "server PWD (xxx)"

Then it is p/w protected.

To remove type "server PWD"

And it goes away.

Can somebody test it?
I never tried it (last time I set up a dedicated server was October 2003....)

Correction! I tested it, it works http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
You just need to enter "server PWD xxx" (without quotes)

enjoy!

Since I was going through my old notes from 2003, I think noboby mentioned until noe the possiobility to change the settings from one mission to the next.

This is an extract of one of TX-Zens postings those days

Any mission running must be stopped before putting any of these commands.
So your server.cmb should look like this
-----------------------------------------------------------

It's obvious that 1 activates, 0 desactivates the corresponding function.

I have found most of the commands in the list in the old readme.txt file. Probably there are more commands now available after ACE and Pacific so, if anybody has some more, pls post.

Gasp,did you assign the internal ip # or did your router?Maybe 100.0.0.10 is not in the range of your router dhcp.

For some reason it looks like the dedicated software is trying to create a socket on the gate way(100.0.0.1,router) and not the incoming ip

Hi Troll2K,

i assigned the Server IP manually, dhcp is disabled in the router/firewall.
It´s strange, that the server tries to open the socket on the gateway IP, shouldn´t he try to open port 21000 anyway and not this 50969? Don´t know where this comes from. I´m logging the traffic with ethereal at the moment and post it later...crazy thing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The communication between Client/Firewall and Firewall/Server seems to be ok, but how can i test the communication Client/Firewall/Server?
Is there a tracert for ports?

These packets may explain, why this socket-error occurs:

quote:
socket channel NOT created (): 100.0.0.1:55696

The communication is between the Firewall (100.0.0.1) and the Server (100.0.0.10), so the server tries to open the socket on his gateways IP (100.0.0.1).
But why with Port 55696?

That the packets between server and firewall run over UDP 28979 and 21000 , should be ok?

Hi all, I was wondering if I could get some help with this issue. I've tried installing the dedicated server v204 exe a couple of times with no success. It gets almost to the end and then I get an unexpected termination of install error.
The last time I saw this error "CRC failed in lib\fonts\LucindaSandsRegular.ttf" and it tells me to try to download again to fix this.
Ive downloaded it a few times from here http://ftp.ubi.com/us/games/pacific_fighters/dedicated_servers/ and also from 3Dgamers with the same results....
I have to confess that I know very little about this kind of stuff or computers in general for that matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated....
If it matters, I have the merged versions of the game, FB+AEP+PF. Also, I have no other version of the dedicated server intalled. Do I need an earlier version? I think someone told me that I didnt, that it was OK to start with v204(410MB)
Thanks in advance for any response
edit: I just saw CrazyIvans post that the file LucIndaSands etc is corrupt and that I need to replace it with something else.
See previous about no knowledge of this stuff http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif How do I do that? If I cant install it first?
Also saw a post about starting with v1.1. Im gonna try that.

m8 belive me, you are doing some mistake. The command is right, the problem MUST be elswhere.

Are u sure that all the installation process is right? did u experience some sort of problem or error during installation?

do a brief check and try again, perhaps moving the mix files in the default folder. I'm playing around the dedicated server since 04/2004 and i have never experienced some particular problem, if iexclude my own mistakes of course ;-).

Goog luck and keep us updated.

Or so every other map loaded changes settings automaticaly ?

Thanks a lot for this easy guide. Much appreciated!

I have already set up my dedi server and all is working fine. No problem with my server & hyperlobby & router & 2 PCs configuration.

But a single question is left: After launching the server via commandline or hyperlobby i want to close the DOS-Box where the server is running in. But if i do so, the server is shutting down. Also i want to close the hyperlobby window. But same effect here. I close hyperlobby and then the dosbox will close too and server shuts down. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Any ideas / suggestions how to close this two windows without server shutdown?

Thanks a lot for every answer!

Still no ideas for my post above?

Additionally i want to add some important notes ...

I have downloaded the 2.04 (410MB) Server from ubi.ftp - and some files are corrupt. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif For all who are looking for a 4.01m server (full version), you find a working version here: http://www.gennadich.com/en/files/109/index.html

And another important question is circling in my brain: I need to know how much traffic is produced by the dedicated server (merged version)? How much bandwith/player is needed in up- and downstream? Anybody knows?

Thanks so far, hope to get some answers ...

The bottleneck for the server is uplink traffic (from the host computer to Internet). Downlink traffic is when the players send information, what their plane does. The server spreads this information out separately to every other player, this is why uplink trafic is so much higher and important, and increases almost exponentially with the number of people joining. (Downlink traffic grows only linearly with the number of players.)

The bandwidth of each player is determined by the player setting. If he sets his type of connection to ADSL, he will take a larger bandwidth on the server. This can cause huge problems with lag, because players with fat broadband connections can eat up the uplink bandwidth capacity of the server in no time. You can see that happening when suddenly everyone's ping increases to abnormal values, and random "Cheating has been detected" messages start to appear from the server.

What I read: Hyperlobby gets around this by instructing the client to 14.4 kbit/s setting. So everyone joining via Hyperlobby should take the least amount of bandwidth possible for smooth play. But with direct IP joining, this may not work. I worked around the problem in such way, that my server controller immediately throttles back everyone's bandwidth to 28.8 kbit/s. This provides a lag-free gameplay for 7 players using built-in IL2 radio for my 128 kbit/s uplink connection.

To monitor the bandwidth, I use the built-in MS Performance Control application, which is charting a nice graph of actual network load. If the uplink grap is rather smooth (horizontal), everything is fine. When it starts to osciallate (up, down, up...), or falls back considerably at times, that's a sign of network overload, and warping and lag.

My workaround was that I wrote a similar tool like the IL2 Server Commander and FBDaemon (but much smaller in function). If you will make your server accessible only via HL, no need to worry about this much, just start up with a reasonable number of slots, and expand it gradually.

My confs.ini (this is for v1.22 right now, not 4.01 yet):

[NET]
speed=18000
serverChannels=6
localPort=21000

#IPS=127.0.0.1
LOG=1
LOGTIME=1
LOGFILE=logs.lst
HISTORY=128
HISTORYCMD=128
LOGKEEP=1

My problem is that I host the server currently on UBI.com, and the UBI.com client do not limit the bandwidth of clients in the same way as HL client does.

I heard a rumour that setting serverRate=3000 in hlpro.ini is best way to get as less lags/warps as possible in game. Dunno if this counts for a dedicated server too. I will try these settings now:

confs.ini
speed=18000 (as you have set)

hlpro.ini
ClientRate=3000
serverRate=3000

You think this works? Or must i set serverRate=18000 in hlpro.ini eq. set speed=3000 in confs.ini? Im a bit confused now!

And how can i force clients connecting via HL to my server to use a ClientRate=3000?

If you have any suggestions left please answer - thanks much appreciated!!!

rnzoli

What uplink speed do you have on your internet connection?

The confs.ini "speed" and hlrpro.ini should be set according to that IMO. 18000 is ~128 kbit/s for me. However, I don't host (yet) via HyperLobby, so I am not 100% sure. Must experiement with it.

The HL software does the limitation automatically, on everybody's computer - as far as understood from its FAQ. You don't need to worry about that.

Hope HL really do so. And yes, i have 128k upstream too. Thats why i choosed to use same setting (18000). I will follow your tip and experiement with the settings.

Thanks so far and bye for now comrade.

In terms of internet speed. What kind of upload speed is needed for at least 16 clients? Thank you for the help.

there is technical support for HL on the web site, but this is from the top of my head: yes

copy the file il2server_new.exe to il2fb.exe, select this il2fb.exe for HL (disconnect, hold down contrl+shift and click connect with mouse to bring up the selection)

then take a lauch slot in the DF game slots, save game information, then launch it - and there it goes, the dedi server starts up, and HL players see it on the left side of the server list

Hello All,

Ok.. I have the Ded Server working with 2.01 Server commander. Tested the 4.05m server by getting into the game via my external ip. I am now banging my head on the wall. I do have the users folder in the ded svr directory. HL is saving my settings now, but "Start The Game" won't highlight. Help .. what could be the issue.

Forgot to put this in. Running on Win2003server. I had issues with HL. Uninstalled. Ran VB Runtime from HL site. Reinstalled HL without issue. Still no "Start The Game". Just keeps going back to the settings screen.

Well, a good start would be to describe what's your setup, what seems to be your problem, what have you done so far to solve it etc.

As this is a community forum, don't expect someone to committ to helping you through till you have it working. But you can safely assume that if you provide a good problem description, people with some competence in this area will drop by and give you a few recommendations that you may try.

Hi all,

Could someone please tell me whether it is possible to run dedicated server of PF version 4.04 on one PC and connect to the server from the same PC?

After several days of configuration I made server running and buddy could connect there (through AllseeingEye).
But when I try to connect (I entered local IP to AllSeeingEye and I can see server stats there). But when I try to connect, game starts but then it stops on message "Connecting to server. Please wait" This message stays there untill I quit. I simply cannot get into game. When I take a look in server log I can only see something like "Timeout overflow: ticketlen 163".

Did anyone experience following problem? What am I doing wrong? Is it even possible to run dedicated server and client of the same machine?

Thanks for any comment. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I think the readme files explicitly forbid this setup (server & client) on same machine, but I believe it was for performance reasons.

If you are able to start up the full game on the same PC, maybe that's not a big problem, what you may experience is a conflict of IP addressess, enter 'socket udp' on the dedicated server console to see on which address it is listening, normally it listens on 1 address, that can be your Internet address. If you want it to listen on the local IP address, you have to configure the dedicated server that way. (I am doing this also when connecting from my dedicated server from another PC, but via the LAN on my desk, while others come through the internet).

Rnzoli, thx for prompt reply. I cannot execute 'socket udp' command now as I am at work http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But yesterday I was checking with "netstat -na" for IPs listening on port 21000. And result was that it is listening on my local IP, not external. And I am forwarding traffic from external IP to internal one (through NAT settings).
I hope it is not recommended to run server&client on the same PC because of performance reasons. I believe my configuration is strong enough for runing both ded. server and client. I really don't have other machine just for runing server on.

Any other ideas? Somebody help, plese.

rnzoli
07-24-2006, 02:18 AM
well, it seems your dedicated server should listen to your local address as well, but the real confirmation is to see a message on the dedicated console saying something about "channel NOT created" about 30-60 seconds after you tried connecting to it locally. This message also displays the client's IP address as seen by the server.

By the way, check this as well. You have 1 machine. How many IP addresses it has? If only one, do you differenciate between the port number used by the dedicated server and the full game? Check the message logs for your full game (through it's own console) and look for anything containing 'bind'. Unless you use 2 IP addresses, or use 1 IP address but different ports, the full game (started later) may not be able to bind itself to <your IP>:21000 port. Besides that obscure error message in the console, the game appears working fine, except that it cannot communicate over the network at all, having no port. Check the 'socket udp' on the full game console too, if there is nothing listed, that's the problem, possible to solve by configuring your game's port to 21001 in the conf.ini file.

Rnzoli, thank you for your valuable hints. I will test all this tomorrow in the evening and then I will let you know the result (hopefully success http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ).

EDIT: 1 more information. Buddy who connected yesterday to my server told me that he has been able to select base but when he wanted to select aircraft his PC hanged up and he had to reset it. Do you think this could be caused by my server config? I did not see any suspicious message in server log.

And one more question: how to open game console?

benCZ1981
07-25-2006, 04:09 PM
It is working http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I can now run server and client on one machine. Everything I had to do is chang localport in conf.ini file of game (like this ... localPort=21001).

good to hear http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

should you need it another time, the game console can be opened from the chat window, typing a > (greater than) sign first,then the command you want to give on the console

regarding the freeze of the PC of your friend, I don't think it is related, normally if you are connected, selecting an aircraft is a local job on the PC, there is no need for major data transfer from your server to his PC, that's the advantage of allowing only the same versions of the game to connect http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm running the DS and FBD2 behind a router. I'm running the server on port 21001, and I've set up port forwarding for that.

I can connect to the server using another computer on the LAN, using the LAN IP address, but I can't connect from a remote machine over the Internet, using the Internet address.

What the general procedure for this setup behind a router? Is there a step I may have missed?

Theres no information easily avaliable apparently.

The rest Ive looked around and found but the main v2.04m server I cant find at all.

Ok after some URL jiggery pokery at UBI, I found it in the root directory.

In my case, it was the map files (fb_maps##.SFS), and filesserver.SFS (for which I used files.SFS renamed) So far, it is running without problem, except I get a few messages of "house without collision" when some maps load, but this appears not to be a problem, or even necessarily related. If you intend to continue patching the server, then any errors may end up corrected by the patching. Give it a try.

Oh, and thanks for getting this thread out of limbo! The way it was set up before, new posts did not bump it into view on the forum....working good now!

I installed Dedicated server with default setting, but when I start DS and IL2FB , try to connect to 127.0.0.1 , nothing happens (only connecting dialog shows).

Please help me set IL2 DS.

KG26_Alpha and dbillo, you can find correct file at http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/il2sturmovik2/server204.exe.html

I'm not sure the loopback IP will actually work...it never did for me. If you have a LAN IP, use that, or if you are connected to Internet, use your Internet IP address. If you're behind a router, you will have to use your LAN IP address.

Are you running the DS and IL2FB on same machine?

Oh, and thanks for server d/l link.

Yes, I tried local addres 127.0.1 and local external ip address on ethernet interface. No difference.

Please post the contents of your confs.ini file, and also the [NET] section of your conf.ini file.

For example, here are mine:

confs.ini (of dedicated server)
[NET]
speed=3000
serverChannels=6
localPort=21000
SkinDownload=0
difficulty=1217791
serverName=Bulau
serverDescription=
checkServerTimeSpeed=1
checkClientTimeSpeed=1
localHost=192.168.0.2 <--my LAN address
socksHost=

[chat]
autoLogDetail=3

[MaxLag]
farMaxLagTime=10.0
nearMaxLagTime=2.0
cheaterWarningDelay=10.0
cheaterWarningNum=30

[Console]
IP=2000
IPS=192.168.0.2 <---my LAN address (for fbdaemon)
LOG=1
LOGTIME=1
LOGFILE=logs.lst
HISTORY=128
HISTORYCMD=128
LOGKEEP=1

net section of conf.ini (from my game folder)
[NET]
speed=3000
routeChannels=0
serverChannels=3
localPort=21000
remotePort=21000
SkinDownload=0
serverName=Bulau
serverDescription=
remoteHost=192.168.0.2 <-- my LAN address
localHost=
socksHost=
checkServerTimeSpeed=1
checkClientTimeSpeed=1
checkTimeSpeedDifference=0.15
checkTimeSpeedInterval=8

Now, if you are behind a router, you will probably have to use your local LAN address as I have to do. Don't use the 127.0.0.1 loopback address.

If you don't use a router, then you can use your Internet IP address in all of those same places in the confs.ini and in the conf.ini, but if you have a local network, then the LAN adress should work.

After you start the DS, type this right into the window and then hit <enter>:

socket udp

This will return the address of the socket that the server is listening on. This will be the address that it will accept connections. (there can be more than one, but default is one)

You really seem to have a grip of this dedicated server stuff. I have run servers in the past to a limited effect. The problems were mainly the server slowing down due to log build up I think, not that sure. This caused new joiners to be timed out before they were established in the game.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was - Has anyone finally overcome the automatic restart of a DS in HL. What I mean is that to restart a DS after a server crash (using a service like FireDaemon) needs the mouse to click on a spare dogfight slot. Obviously FireDaemon can't do this and I have to actually do this myself (Radmin to the Data Centre Server, notice it has rebooted, restart HL and login, select a DF slot and start the server again!!!). Clearly I can't be on the server all the time just waiting for a problem, so can a DS be restarted (on HL) automatically yet? Long question and I fully expect the short answer!!!!!

Thanks for any help...

Hope this helps in any way. This is not even close to complete setup, but at least this will get you start it and you can host. To all hosts, please feel free to add to this thread, your input is greatly appriciated.

Cheers!

No it dont help anyone who has just bought 1946, no mention of servers with that, or the4 fact if 1946 "is" a hybrid of merged install updates, hence relating to server setup, is what ? stand alone for 1946 or merged..

cheers

I have looked into this possibility earlier, but the HL client did not have a command line interface at that time, it's not possible to 'hack it' either, and clicking randomly at a slot may not work, if the slot is occupied. You might try to look into the HL forums for similar questions however, Jiri made serveral new developments recently, perhaps this can be solved nowadays.

Anyhow, the root cause of the problem is a server restart. This is quite unusual, the dedicated server sofwatre can do crazy things, true, but have never failed on me. So server crash should be a very rare thing if everything is set up properly on good hardware - sufficient memory, stable connection etc. You can disable IL2 logging, you can even run periodic GC commands in the server's console window for garbage collection (memory cleanup), and for power outages, you might install small scripts to check, whether IL2 is up and running, sending you an e-mail or some other message, when it's down.

The 'merge' refer to the 2 separable game development paths, Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack (FB + AEP), and Pacific Fighters (PF). PF could be run stand-alone, without FB+AEP. When installed on top of FB+AEP, that was the 'merged' installation.

1946 DVD contains FB+AEP+PF for backward compatibility reasons, therefore is considered as 'merged' installation.

I was wondering about this myself...the log file gets pretty massive after a few months. Mine is well over 100 megabytes.

Lately I've noticed that FBDaemon seems sluggish, and occasionally a target kill in one mission will spill over into the subsequent mission. I also notice that the log only gets updated when the server is shut down, so where does all that **** get stored in the meantime? RAM?

For the DS, you need every patch, as there is no single download for 4.07, unlike buying the game.

The starting point for a DS is 2.04, then you start applying patches from there:
3.03
3.04
4.01
4.02
4.03
4.04
4.05
4.06
4.07
and now...4.071

What, if any, dedicated server do you have installed and running at the moment? That's where you need to start patching.

Running dedicated server, im on router netgear dg-834gt thing.. the machine hosting the server I put the local ip ,, 192.168.0.2 in the confs.ini was it ? got it running etc..

Connected to test with main game machine with ip of the local said machine (192.168.0.2) and it connectd says successfull.

I click ok and see the % go up while it loads in the map i chose for test.. simple folder number 4/first dogfight map..

Anyhow it gets to 100% then goes and says map loaded.. or whatever it says.. and then sits there doing nothing..

It does not go no further.. Any ideas? obviously its connecting to grab the files etc but im at a loss why it wont go past it when its finished loading up..

I scanned the forum here for similiar problem but not seeing it hmm..

Thanks in advance.

ok sorted, it was a command that isnt listed anywhere as far as i can see called "BEGIN" put after the map choice in the server.cmd file..

Now to sort out ports, seem to have it all open for 2000,21000 udp and tcp, i cant connect through HL onto my server that way but can with join rrom ingame with local ip.. server has local ip's setup and then all forwarded to the ports...

Keep trying i guess, other than that maybe the netgear dg-834GT router is not good..

If I understand it right, to set up a new dedi, I need to start with 2.04-dedi and then ptch it up step by step. So far, so good.

Problem:
I cannot DL 2.04:
- 3D-gamer is always busy and I don't wanna subscribe
- Ubi-ftp-version is corrupt, athough it has 410MB as well.

Where else can I DL 2.04-dedi?

i use a dummy il2fb.exe .. in my case its actually solitaire
have to manually put it in HL and launch it .. then HL launches solitaire
i then use a batch file to launch the DS
means time outs for players trying to connect when the DF isn't up .. but thats a minor problem http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I used the ubi ftp version, made a note of the corrupt files, (all map files, and filesserver.sfs) and copied them all from a working FB+AEP 2.04 install. I used files.sfs and just renamed it to filesserver.sfs. It seems to be working fine, and likely some of those files will get updated in subsequent patches anyhow.

Don't know the details, only Oleg knows how it works in reality http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I know for certain however, that some important control (not the graphics) parts of IL-2 are based on Java, and Java has a very sophisticated garbage collection system to clean up unused memory, delete unused objects etc. I think GC command tells the system to do a check and clean-up at that time. Java also does automatic clean up when it runs out of memory, but that may be too much work at once, so it is a good practice to do it periodically, which keeps the clean-up jobs relatively small, and reduces interference with game play.

Hi Guys, this is a large thread and I haven't read through it so apologies if this is already asked.

I'm looking at hosting a server for 334th on Hyperlobby however i'm having trouble finding out what the data transfer is for an average 30+ player server that is running 24x7x365. Bandwidth shouldn't be a problem because a 10meg pipe is ample (I THINK!!!!) however i've no idea how much data is sent to and from the server in a given month. Does anyone have any idea on this? I've heard of "1500gig" but I don't know if that giabytes or bits - big difference!

Much appreciated if you know the answer. Thanks, Osprey

Wow, after wading through 13 pages of posts dating back to 2004 with umpteen dead links to corrupted server files I am completely confused, disoriented and convinced that to set up a dedicated server one must be a dedicated masochist. I was hoping that there'd be a simple, concise, one-stop shopping guide to this otherwise daunting procedure. Some folks got the perseverance obviously because HL is full of servers. Oh well... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif
