Yeppo, Blue Devil.

I agree a 100 %.

I really want that patch, but... you can't do anything, anyway, so this is really getting pointless.

Well I sure hope with all their programming pro-expertise and mathematical genius, that the AI planes can land in a pattern w/o all crashing into each other, CFS2 and FS2002 have been doing it fine for years. Have shelved it till I can do single player missions w/o losing half my planes to landing attrition.

And jeepers is there a post asking for something to work right that you super noobz who live here cant flame? Get a life we want the patch to make this overpriced expansion work correctly, try playing 6 campaigns in single player and youll understand.

I have come to realize that there are more important things in life than waiting for the first patch to IL2:Forgotten battles. However, since I am so bored due to a lack of interest in flying FB in its current state, i thought I would write something here, on this forum.

The original IL2 was very good, and for the first time in years, had me flying a WW2 Sim again. I eagerly awaited the arrival of Forgotten Battles(hereafter known as just FB), and purchased said title the day it arrived at my local EB. My initial impressions were less than positive, although not altogether negative.

The AI seemed at times much better and at times much worse. After playing through seven missions in the 109F2 campaign in Northern Russia, i realized that while the AI was better than that of IL2, the new environment and random missions of the campaign were ill suited for it. Also, the new campaign seems rather devoid of life, having short - often one sentence - debriefings and briefings. The missions lack variation and due to limitations of the AI, lack realistic resolutions.

The incredible accuaracy of the AI in head on passes, certain varieties of AA, AAA, and ship gunners is also a hindrance to smooth offline and online play. This, combined with several flight models that are obviously "off"(not just my opinion, oleg has commented on at least 5 planes that need some tweaking), and you have a lackluster online and offline experience.

Now, i hope that you anti-Patch whiners can at least see where we (the Patch whiners) are coming from at the very least. Not only do I not fully enjoy this game, but the reasons for this are actual problems with game, and not necessarily just my opinons. Genuine "bugs" if you will. The P-40 explosion bug for example, or the incredible stupidity of Ai at times. Now, I have heard Oleg state several times "the limits of technology". However, if it's broke - fix it.

All of this would mean that we (again, the Patch Whiners) are eagerly awaiting the release of this upcoming patch because we want to enjoy this game, but are having trouble doing so in its current condition. Thank You, S~

Actually what he said is what I meant http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I too bought FB the first day it came out, played IL-2 also, didnt enjoy CFS3 at all and I like FB, but its as he said there is some necessary AI improvements to make single player more enjoyable and even MP AI. I found that early on I liked to post on technical aspects of aircraft and thoughts of improvements ect.. then it just turned to ego's and flames. Have not touched FB for months, since SWG beta 3, and now eagerly waiting for a necessary AI patch. Anything more will be appreciated.

OK, found that Oleg posted this on 7/9/03

We are working on the final version of the patch now. Probably will finish on this week and will begin to test then on the next week.

I hope that soon it will be released.

Right now we also works over free add-on with the planes that will comes some later after the patch.
Probably one of the planes there will be flyable P-51D.

Thats all for today.
Screens shots on friday."

So I guess a little more browsing contained the answer.

2. I paid money for this damn thing so I will whine / cry / moan and fricken groan as much as I damn well please !!!

i agree with him above me, i wouldnt buy a faulty washing machine and expect to wait so long till they fixed it....

Bottom line i do think its discraceful that we are being kept in the dark and most threads on the issue seem to get locked out,

I do see that they need to get it right before they ship it, but to let it drag on and on with days slipping into months is just pure tardiness, if they dont think it will meet a forcasted date then that date should not be released. but hey to have a pop at Ubi in here over it, well they are in the same boat as not being the people that developed the game, simply the distributors.

One more item i would like to mention, all this "this planes flight characteristics are wrong etc, I will ask you one question...........HOW DO YOU KNOW? Have you flown a Brewster, done Aeros in a Stuka..... of course you haven't, the answer is NO.in fact have you flown anything?

NO one has for the last 40 years flown a Brewster and as flight characteristics then was not an exact science especially for something that hasn't graced the air for over 40 years, its a case of they have it as correct as possible on the information available, A famous pilot that flew the 747 some years back through the volcanic ash and had 5 flame outs was quoted as saying" that is when i learnt the 747 simulator lies.........99% of the people that come in here moaning over these issues im afraid the closest they have ever got to flying a real aircraft is sitting in cattle class at the back of Mr Boeings pressurised tube 300 self loading cargos up, going to some grotty holiday resort, whilst trying to work out the intricacies of operating the seat back.

"NO one has for the last 40 years flown a Brewster"

That's an evidence, but there also guys with just enough aeronautical knowledge to see if a thing is plausible or not.

And in a few days, you will see the obvious differences between a good but unfinished game and a wonderful and realistic perfect sim /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Define aeronautical Knowledge.

07-15-2003, 07:59 PM
An observation:-

Many people have complained about the AI, the FM, the campaign difficulty, balance, etc etc...

Many people have also disagreed about just what changes are required to each of those areas...

It follows, I think, that *whatever* Oleg does in the patch, some people will be happier, some will still be disappointed, and indeed some who were happy will be less so.

I won't even mention what will happen about trim http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There is only one thing the patch is definitely not going to fix - the disagreements here about whether X should be Y, or A should be B. We might see a few reversals, but the essential disagreements will remain.

That's a good thing, innit? It seems to me that a considerable number of forum posters will be unhappy if anything else results. After all, if it were all spot on, what would there be to debate?

Sometimes I suspect Oleg agrees with the old adage: You can't please any of the people, any of the time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I Concour, I have nearly 30 years behind me in the aeronautical industry from flight testing through to rebuilding, but to say that some people have some knowledge..... well to bring it into perspective, they are trying to raise funds to bring a vulcan back to life in the uk to display it, and one of the major contributers believe it or not i am lead to believe is NASA, the reason...well although this awe inspiring bomber was state of the art in the 50's it was designed on a slide rule...remember them? and as such there is no large delta in existance today that they can learn from, so they want too now with the technology available to test it inflight with the aid of computer technology to record all the parameters, similar Boeing paid for the Russian tu 144? Concordski to be test flown to provide data for their now abandoned i believe super cruiser..............

now they are 50 and 60's technology and are being used to learn flight characteristics from, so to model a Brewster off the top of your head, even from the written word is open to interpretation, one mans Skoda is another mans Rolls Royce
