I love the B-17. I know everyone has their favorite plane but mine dips into a plane which isn't flyable offline and I appreciate the servers throwing the B-17 in the mix.

Anyways, I figured out how to bomb a target using the B-17 from 3000m up. I chose 3000m mainly because it seems to be a decent altitude considering I don't have the bombing site. (And of course I'm doing this all from external view with the map assisting me)

What I do is get the fortress up to about 3000m. While making the approach to a target site (airfield, AA, etc) I cruise at about 80% throttle with the level stabilizer enabled.

Next I go to the F8 external view and zoom in to line myself up with the ground target.

I then toggle the map and zoom in until I see the smallest grid overlay on the map. When I'm about 2.5 to 2.75 square grid units away from the target I release the bombs. I can get this pretty darn accurate and results are good. I've nailed a few people on the strip doing this as well as any intended targets.

Just a tip I'd throw out for the B-17 bombing run, which can pack a pretty good punch. This also seems to work well with the B-25 but there's a slightly different speed with its 80% so I still gotta work on the drop time.

If you love the B-17... ever tried 'B17 Flying Fortress - The mighty 8Th' by Microprose?

It's old (2000) .. available in some shops at really low price: EUR 5... or EUR 10

How are you able to fly the B-17? I wasn't aware that it was possible to do so... Anyone?

You can only fly the b-17 in a dogfight scenario not a coop, first of all. Once you have made your dogfight scenario in the FMB, you manually go into the properties file and add the B-17G to the list of planes available in your airbase. Click to save the new file and when you fly that mission, choose any plane on the arming screen, go into the game and then hit the "Esc' button to go to the refly screen and then choose the B-17. You'll have to fly it from the outside view only as there is no cockpit view.
Remember you can't choose the B-17 as the first plane to fly, you must choose another plane first (which means you have to have another plane available from that airbase) then hit refly and now choose the fortress.. good luck

Thanks ArjenKuifje. I'll look out for this game. I didn't know there was even a B-17 sim.
