View Full Version : concerning rear gunner ammunition

I have recently noticed the 2 big problems with rear gunners in IL 2. Some of them get too much ammunition(BF110, which holds about 100000000 rounds for the rear gunner), and some get too little (IL2, and all its modifications with only about 30-50 rounds).
Is there any possibility of IL2 getting a little more, and BF110 a tad less?

ok, do you have proof of this `100000000 rounds` claim of yours?

Well, buddy, let's look at it historically. How much did the real guys carry? Hmmm? Ask that before you request a change.

I agree with you that it's irritating to be a gunner in an IL-2 for this reason. However, if that's the sort of thing that the real gunners had to deal with, then we should learn to deal with it as well.

AFAIK the MG81Z is supposed to have 1000 rpg (x2). That equates to over 40 seconds of fire time.

Which is a good thing, given how much damage that gun does.

LOL - Great post http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

IIRC the IL-2 variants with the bigger 12.7mm gun carried about 70 rounds.

The field mod with its pair of MG's carries a lot more but you can't sit in that seat.

The Bf110 carries about 1000 rpg for its MG81 IIRC but causes so little damage (as Fennec posted) that it really doesn't "unbalance" the 'game' http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Also bear in mind that the IL-2 rear gun is very potent and can readily kill a 109 engine/pilot/radiator with one hit. You just need to aim carefully http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The IL2 rear gun has about 10 seconds of ammo - that Berezin 12.7mm has a very high rate of fire (~1200rpm IIRC) which equates to around 200 rounds.
As already noted it is quite lethal, a 1-2 second burst can cripple or destroy most fighters if you make it count.

If you happen to be flying coop as a backseater in an IL2 you have count your rounds - and hold fire until you are sure of a hit.

Well, maybe with the damage models being a little off currently, the IL2 rear gun might be a bit underpowered, but I do agree its very powerfull.

p.s SeaFireLIV, apparently you have never heard of figurative language.

I'm pretty sure that there's a bug ingame when online that seems to affect the amount of ammunition a rear gunner has. When you have 2 or more people in an aircraft, a gunner sometimes has very little ammunition or even none at all (without setting the weapons to empty in the menu). We've noticed this happening in the last few patch update including AEP. It's very strange, has anyone else noticed this happening when flying online?

Yeah, it was quiete frusturating when my rear gunner kept on telling me that I chose empty loadout, even though I had rockets and bombs.

the problem is theres no pause for changing clips with the rear gunner in the bf110s two flexible 7.9-mm. MG 81 machine-guns in rear cockpit. you can shoot all the ammount of ammo on in a constant stream, theres no reloading pauses

the same for the heavy bombers, if oleg could someway pause the guns for 20-30 seconds to reload clips it would help.

thats why they made gunners so useless on the heavy bombers and now it takes no skill to shotdown bombers anymore. Before when they were accurate you really had to bnz 600-800kmph and stay away from the angles of the gunners. Now you can just mosey on thru huge formations and not have to worry much at all popping bombers like balloons from any angle.

It goes like this:

In a coop, the reargunner will have ammo until either:

A) he uses all of it
B) the pilot fires the forward pointing guns

At least that what I thought ? If I am right - it is a severe bug.

C!

Call me Mr Picky, but 20-30 seconds would perhaps be overdoing it - unless of course the aircraft is evading at the time. In level flight I'd expect the magazine change to take no more than 5-10 seconds.

Definitely agree with the point about firing all the ammo in one long stream. Normal bursts from these hand held weapons would be 5-10 rounds - long bursts waste ammo and cause stoppages (not to mention frying the barrel - which might not be a high priority for the gunner at the time).

I believe the online issue with human rear gunner ammo has been around for a while - here's to it being fixed in the patch/update/addon.
