James Mitchner mentions using some of the shipboard prop fighters to turn the carrier in port in his early work "Bridges of Toko-Ri". As i recall the squadron commander was complaning bitterly about damaging his engines by use in this manner. In fact carefull ground operation is always necessary to preserve high output aircooled aircraft piston engines!

I am sure such operation caused serious splits between the black shoe and brown shoe navy!
