Anybody tried the new and improved Trackir 2, I'm dying to know if it's worth the upgrade.

Pete,

That's bad news. I just ordered it and didn't know it wasn't shipping. Did you order it from NP?

I read what a beta tester said about it. He said it tracks much smoother with no stutters. It's not so sensitive to having light sources in the background.

"tracks much smoother with no stutters" ...

Thats what version 3.01 of the software does with my TrackIR version 1. What i want to know is what the real benefits is besides it not beeing so sensitive to light sources in the background. Don't want to pay 129$ for just that /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have one. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

But I got mine a couple weeks ago as part of the beta test. With the new 3.1 software it is stunningly cool and an improvement on TIR1.

The response of the unit is awesome and practically alleviates lag and the need for excessive smoothing.

I do have to get a firmware upgrade on this unit which is a bit scary since I'll have to ship it back if it doesn't work right but you guys won't have to worry about that.

version 3.0 and up is worse for me - the 2.12's are best.

I don't know what they did, but I get stutters and pauses with the 3.01 version - not with the 2.12 at all.

I havent been keeping up on it... Can anyone summarize what the new TrackIR has over the old TrackIR? What does it do that the current one doesnot?

Just wrote to natural point to ask when my Ti2 is going to ship. They were great about answering quickly before I ordered, I am hoping to hear back soon.

I was thinking it was supposed to offer more FPS - like 100 fps vs Trackir !'s max of 60 fps...

The new software filters out static way better than before. Seems to lock on the dot and keep it locked right up to it leaving the FOV. No more wooden balls, this thing keeps lock on flat dots too.

Ah ok, now that is a improment I could buy into.. the 60Hz vs 100Hz does not interset me as much.. it is fine as is.. But the FOV.. is not a problem now.. but I do have to mount the TX/RX thing in a less than idel spot to make it not an issue.. So if the new one has a better FOV I wouldnt have to worry about is a much.

Mine will arrive today, it is on the truck out for delivery, CAN'T WAIT.

I will give my opinion on it later, but then again I have no original TI experience.
