Remember all the panic about whether or not the F4U would be in PF?

OK, seriously? The P-38 was in service before Pearl Harbor, and was a main US fighter in the PTO. The P-47 is one of the trio of great US Army Fighters and was well distinguished in the PTO. I think the Mustang would be omitted grom flyable aircraft before the Lightning. The P-47 and P-38 have the range to perform tasks the P-40 does not, so yes, I think they will be flyable.

A better question is: will we get B-18s?

We already have a couple models of the P-38 and P-47 in ACE... so it would be pointless not to add them, not to mention their importance on the pacific theatre.
Im hoping now we will get earlier versions of the P-38... what would a P-38 do to a 1942 Japanese planeset? I can only wonder.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
But seriously, please Luthier give use earlier models of the Lightning http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

Just because it isn't an addon doesn't mean that PF won't use planes taken from ACEs. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
The P-47, P-38 and Mustang will all be in PF.. I can assure of that..

S!

I dont care about the cockpit as long as they give me the P47N model that goes 467mph at 33,000ft and has a roll rate of 100degres a second and it was the most manueverable of all P47s with the P47D-30 body style.

Thats what i want

WE should have the P47M 470+mph at 33,200ft in FB/AEP right now, it saw more action than the Ta152 ever did and the both of them would make for a good high alt fight.

CCJ: What do you define as the most important things a fighter pilot must know to be successful, relating to air combat maneuvering?

Robert S. Johnson :
It's pretty simple, really. Know the absolute limits of your plane's capabilities.
Know its strengths and weaknesses. Know the strengths and weaknesses of you enemy's fighters. Never fight the way your enemy fights best. Always fight the way you fight best. Never be predictable.

In "Fighter Aces," aviation historians Raymond Tolliver
and Trevor Constable compared Johnson's record with that of two German aces.
Werner Molders was the first ace to score 100 aerial victories and Erich Hartmann is the top scoring ace of all time with 352.

The authors noted that
Johnson "emerges impressively from this comparison." He downed 28 planes in 91 sorties, while Molders took 142 sorties to do the same, and Hartmann, 194.

Oooooooh, http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif a P-38 "Search for Yamamoto Coop mission. Now that would be fun. Lot's of timing, Navigation and engine/fuel-flow management as tought to the P-38 pilots by Charles Linberg. Are real re-enactors (like myself) dream.

I've tried to re-create a Yamamoto mission in the pacific map in ACE.. but its just not big enough.. I want hundreds of miles of open sea to fly across.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The P-38 had a 12-1 victory rate over the Japs. I have been waiting for a solid Pacific Theater sim that I could fly the Lightning against the best and not so best of the Japanese since I was a teenager. I feel this is it!

BTW, anyone know if the American "Devastator" bomber will be in this?

Be careful with American victories !
During WWII, victories were overestimated. The worst are Japanese, with American in second. These two country had a big superiority complex. Their victories would be divided by 3. With American scorn for Japanese, it's worst in the Pacific than in Europe.
For exemple, Americans shot down 440 planes during Great Turkey shot. Japanese had 350 only.
But every nation overestimate aerial victories.

Just an FYI. If it was in the PAcific, and its in IL2, Luthier WILL use it. That includes Ki-84, Zero, Spitfire, P-51, P-47, P-38, P-39, P-40, PBY, and maybe a few others. He has said this in his own post's so its not like I am giving anything away. Since PF is working off of IL2's engine, it would be easy to incorperate the aircraft thats already flyable or made.

US doctrin stated you must have a 2nd hand account of a kill to claim the victory. Many kills went unclaimed simply because nobody else saw it. Im reading books written by US fighter pilots and they got fustrated because they could not claim some kills. One pilot was alone and bounced a Zero in his P-40. The wing was blown off the zeno and he watched the Zero hit the water. His only thoughts were "I wish someone saw that, so I could claim it".

This same fighter pilot had his best friend beheaded by a japanese commander for the "amusement" of the troops. Once you hear about things like that, you forget there is a human in your target.

Overestimating kills was a problem with all airforces in WWII. The US got one count from their own pilots and one from the Japanese from codebreaking so they didnt plan for the future using the inflated numbers.
